Weakness, Waiting, & Others We Hate To Do

1 Samuel 30:1-6

Let’s face it we hate to wait. We also hate to show weakness. But Scripture is clear, it is the humble who receive grace, and those who wait get strength.

Isaiah 40:28-31, “Have you never heard or understood? Don’t you know that the LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of all the earth? He never grows faint or weary. No one can measure the depths of his understanding. 29 He gives power to those who are tired and worn out; he offers strength to the weak. 30 Even youths will become exhausted, and young men will give up. 31 But those who wait on the LORD will find new strength. They will fly high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.” NLT

Psalm 40:1-3

1-“I waited Patiently for the Lord to Help Me”

-Not only is he waiting, he is waiting Patiently

-David is in a bad way, they want to kill him, but He wait on God

“Waiting in prayer is the disciplined refusal to act before God acts” Eugene Peterson

2-“He Heard me and He Lifted me out of the pit”

-God hears

Ps 138:3 “When I pray, you answer me; you encourage me by giving me the strength I need.”

-God give him the go ahead and they launch into action

3-“He set my feet on solid ground”

-God re-establishes David

4-“He gave me a new song to sing”

-David once again has a song of praise for the Lord

Think of Paul, “My gracious favor is all you need. My power works best in your weakness” (2 Cor 12:8)

2 Cor 4:8-10, “8 We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed and broken. We are perplexed, but we don’t give up and quit. 9 We are hunted down, but God never abandons us. We get knocked down, but we get up again and keep going. 10 Through suffering, these bodies of ours constantly share in the death of Jesus so that the life of Jesus may also be seen in our bodies.” NLT

2 Cor 4:16-18, “16 That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day. 17 For our present troubles are quite small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us an immeasurably great glory that will last forever! 18 So we don’t look at the troubles we can see right now; rather, we look forward to what we have not yet seen. For the troubles we see will soon be over, but the joys to come will last forever.” NLT
