Summary: Short Message on Accessing the word of God for my Middle School Class

Tell me some of your favorite restaurants..Not like fast food though, most everyone here likes McDonalds and Taco Bell….Tell me about the restaurants that you love going to. What kind of food do they serve? is it a different nationality?

OK, now has anyone ever been adventurous enough go to a restaurant with a foreign menu. You know one of the menus that has a bunch of symbols and you have no clue what they actually mean…like this one…. Most Seoul or Korean restaurants have menus like this. A bunch of symbols or sayings we don’t understand the meaning of. You could be ordering Korean Chicken Wings or Kimchi (which is fermented cabbage and radishes) or Bosintang… (You know …dog…)….at least it’s not a Cambodian menu…you could be having BBQ Rat….

I think I will just stick to the chicken wings, but which one is the chicken wings on the menu?

Is Chicken wings on the menu ?????

Needless to say, it’s hard to order something from a menu when you don’t understand what you can order…Let me re-phrase that… it’s difficult to ask for something when you don’t know what’s available…

1 Minute

For the next 3 weeks, we are going to be talking about the Bible, and what we truly have access to. I get it you are probably asking what the Bible has to do with a Korean Menu that may or may not have Boston terrier as an appetizer, but stick with me. I hope that you will have a different perspective on some things at the end of this, and that you will be able to access more of the Bible then what you first thought you could. Think about the Bible being the Menu to the best life you can ever have….

So let’s talk about the “Foreign Menu.”

3 Minutes

I will have the Double Cheeseburger with seasoned fries and a…..water….. Ok so that is most likely not on this menu. But I want you to think about this…what if we treated the Bible like a menu at a restaurant. Or what about this….we could go to lunch and I could say to you, ask for whatever you want. Don’t worry about the cost or the price I will take care of it. Wait a minute that sounds familiar.

Matthew 7:7 “Ask and It will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.”

It is a verse everyone here has probably heard more than once in his or her lives, but do we really get it? God loves us so much that he has given us his word, the menu for life, THE BIBLE and all we have to do is access it. Just open it up, ask God, seek after him and knock or put in effort and the door will be opened to you…. Sounds great, class dismissed, we are done let us get dinner all this talking about food is making me hungry….

Wait though, we as Christians understand the menu. We at least have the opportunity to read the menu and understand what we are asking for unlike the Korean Menu where we could be probably be ordering some family pet…We know this, so Why are we talking about something we already understand???

Because all of us have friends and family in our lives that don’t understand what following a loving God gives us access to…

That we don’t have to be afraid or fear anything because… Isaiah 41:10 Don't be afraid, for I am with you. Don't be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.

That we can trust God because Psalm 18:2 The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety.

And we know that God loves us because: John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave is one and only son that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life

We all have someone that can’t read this menu (Bible) and we have to translate it for them.

Do you ever get the craving for a certain food….like when others start talking about it, you imagine eating it and before you know it your imagining how it tastes weather its cold or hot salty or sweet….And now you want it….

Do you have people your around that wish they were happy like other people, or they wish they weren’t so angry all the time, or that they craved something better out of life?

It’s the same concept but the only difference is that the people that don’t have God in their lives are looking at a menu that they cant read and they don’t know that happiness, joy and peace is on the menu. It’s up to you guys to let people know that they can have what they are seeking and that its in the Bible.
