WHAT SHOULD A FAMILY BE?

God’s Original Intention for the Family

Genesis 1:26-28

Some definitions of a family …

1. The Birthplace of Creativity

2. A Formation Center for Human Relationships

3. A Shelter in the Time of Storm

4. F.A.M.I.L.Y.-Father And Mother I Love You

1. GOD STARTED THE FAMILY

"So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them." (Gen 1:27 NIV)

The family begun with God. He started it. God will not start something for nothing

God started my family. It is not an accident where I am now

Where I am now in the family is where God put me. God has a plan for me in my family

“Unless the LORD builds the house, its builders labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchmen stand guard in vain." (Psa 127:1 NIV)

"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart;" (Jer 1:5 NIV)

2. GOD BLESSED THE FAMILY

"God blessed them and . . .” (Gen 1:28 NIV)

God’s nature is to bless. Even before man did something for God, He blessed them already.

God blessed Adam with life, a wife, a beautiful home, a work to do, food to eat.

“For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future,” (JER. 29.11 NIV)

3. GOD INSTRUCTED THE FAMILY

“. . . said to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground."" (Gen 1:28 NIV)
