Summary: We ponder what will heaven be and what 8 things won’t be in heaven.

WHAT WON’T BE THERE! (Heaven)

By Wade martin Hughes, Sr. Kyfingers@aol.com

This could be done as a two part lesson.

I. WHAT IS THE ONLY MAN MADE THING IN HEAVEN?

A. The answer to that is simple, the scars in the hands and feet of Jesus were made by man.

B. Jesus will carry those scars as a testimony of the price He paid for our INVITATION and HIS AMAZING GRACE that He paid in full for us.

II. THE GATE OF HEAVEN WILL BE MADE OF ONE PEARL.

A. There will be 12 gates entering that Beautiful City, NEW JERUSALEM --- three on each side.

Rev. 21:21 And the twelve gates were twelve pearls; every several gate was of one pearl: and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass.

B. NOW WHERE DID GOD FIND AN OYSTER THAT BIG?

III. THERE WILL BE NO CHURCHES OR TEMPLE IN HEAVEN,

FOR THE FATHER AND HIS SON WILL BE THE TEMPLE!

Rev. 21:22 And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it.

IV. HOW BEAUTIFUL HEAVEN MUST BE!

A. Have you ever considered HEAVEN?

My Mom told me when my Grandfather Sumner was asleep --- he woke up and described the ROSES he had seen in heaven during his sleep. He told them of the beauty of the huge roses and how vivid their colors were. He was amazed at all the roses he had seen.

B. Then he told something about the ROSES he saw in heaven, as he walked among the roses he noted --- THERE WAS NOT ONE THORN, THE ROSES AND THEIR

BEAUTY was not marred by the presence of thorns.

V. WHERE WE WILL NEVER GROW OLD.

A. ANOTHER NEAT ASPECT OF THE FLOWERS IN HEAVEN IS FOUND IN AN OLD SONG

B. . I LOVE THE OLD SONG --- NEVER GROW OLD.

I had a dear friend named Joe Arnett in eastern Kentucky. He had asked God to live to be 100 years old.

He was 70 and in amazing health. I was Joe’s pastor many years.

When Joe was 91 --- his health started failing, and Joe began a new prayer.

Joe begged God to send His angels and take him to his LONG HOME.

There was a new sparkle in Joe’s eyes, he carried a distant look in his eyes.

At 91 --- Joe was ready --- Joe had a longing in his heart for Jesus.

I was honored to return to the mountains and celebrate Joe’s life.

A year later I returned and did Rebecca’s funeral, her vision was dimmed.

Rebecca missed Joe, her soul mate of over 68 years was gone.

The trails and roads of many years had birthed a new desire to be TOGETHER AGAIN, TOGETHER FOREVER, where we will never grow old.

C. My Grandfather Hughes used to sing the song. Then my Dad sang the song! I wonder what is so bad about growing old, but today --- as I travel to rest homes

and watch us age, I now sing the song with great expectations.

D. I HEARD OF A LAND ON THAT FAR AWAY STRAND, ’Tis a beautiful home of the soul. Built by Jesus on high, where we shall never die,

’Tis a land WHERE WE WILL NEVER GROW OLD...

E. The last verse says:

When our work here is done, and our life-crown has been won, And our troubles and trials are o’er,

All our sorrows will end --- AND OUR VOICES WILL BLEND,

WITH LOVED ONES WHO HAVE GONE ON BEFORE.

F. WHAT WILL BE THE MOST BEAUTIFUL THING IN HEAVEN?

Rev. 22:1 And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.

G. There will be a beautiful river flowing down from the THRONE OF GOD.

The waters of this river will be AS CLEAR AS CRYSTAL.

How beautiful that river must be.

I was preaching once and I said I was going to pull off my shoes, wade out into the river and go fishing.

A little old lady stopped me right in the sermon and informed me there would be no fish in that river!

Well I don’t know if there will be fish or there will be no fish in that river?

And it really does not matter either way?

But in my humble opinion there will be some of the biggest, prettiest rainbow trout swimming in that crystal water.

H. We do know the LAMB will lay down by the LION!

VI. THERE WILL BE HUGE BEAUTIFUL TREES.

A. I love to look at huge, beautiful old trees.

Driving into town, there is an old oak tree that I always slow down and enjoy taking in the oaks endurance of time.
