What Is Christmas All About?
Most people will tell you that Christmas is about giving, and that is partially true.
Actually, giving is the visible act of what Christmas is all about.
Still don’t know? Turn to 1 John 4:9-10 (read aloud)
Someone quote John 3:16: "For God so loved the world that He gave..."
Romans 5:15-18. Jesus is called a gift 6 times.
I saw a church sign that read, "Jesus is the reason for the season." That is absolutely true! But, why did God give Jesus? L-O-V-E.
We aren’t talking about some ooey-gooey human emotion based on physical attraction. We are talking about the supernatural love of God!!!
We’re talking about a love that looks past physical imperfections. A love that looks past your faults, flaws, failures, your sins. A love that looks beyond all the bad and says, "I still love them."
You can give without loving but you cannot love without giving!!!
Love has to give. Maybe not physical gifts. It might be time or itself, but love has to give.
I can tell what you love by what you spend your time on.
Christmas is about love. God’s great, eternal love for us. A love so strong in the heart of God that it motivated Him to give the very best He had that first Christmas.
Christmas is also about Jesus’ love for us. His love for us motivated him to give his life.
From the time Jesus was born he had one main purpose in life. To die for us.
Matthew 26: 51-53
Jesus had a choice till the very end. God left the decision up to Him. God had to, Jesus had to be a willing sacrifice.
Jesus could have changed His mind anytime, why didn’t He? Love compelled Him to the cross.
What was the joy set before Him? What would cause Him to look at all He had to suffer and then say, "It’s worth every second of it."
Redemption. Jesus saw what His suffering would buy. You and I.
Christmas is also about our loving and giving to others, not just family and friends.
Sums it up pretty good! We are to love because love is of God. God started loving way back before the earth was ever made.
The Bible says that Jesus was a lamb slain before the foundation of the world.
God looked into the future, saw that man would fall, he would need a savior. He made man anyway. That’s love!!!
Christmas isn’t about trees- that’s only a tradition.
Christmas isn’t about brightly wrapped packages- although those are great.
Christmas isn’t about Santa Claus- he is only a legend.
Christmas is about love. A God who so loved that He gave His only Son to save man.
Jesus, the sinless Son of God, born in Bethlehem, who so loved that He gave His life as a sacrifice for man.
Christmas is about us, taking God’s example, and reaching out to others.
Christmas is about giving. But most importantly, it’s about love.
