When Dead Men Rise—Luke 7:11-17

Jesus raised a young man from the dead.

Jesus can bring an end to deadness.

6 conditions/evidences/provisions for ending your deadness.

1—When the dead rise Jesus has

BEEN THERE/MOVED(:11)

—Explanation:(:11) Travel//Visited

“And it came about soon afterwards, that He went to a city called Nain; & His disciples were going along with Him, accompanied by a large multitude.”

Jesus is not immobile/unmovable & limited in space He occupies unless He chooses to limit Himself.

We may approach God...OR...God may approach us directly.

God has made the effort to meet your need.

—Argumentation:

Gen. 1:2—“And the earth was formless & void, & darkness was over the surface of the deep; & the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the waters.”

Deut. 23:14—““Since the LORD your God walks in the midst of your camp to deliver you & to defeat your enemies before you, therefore your camp must be holy; & He must not see anything indecent among you lest He turn away from you.”

Prov. 5:21—“For the ways of a man are before the eyes of the LORD, And He watches all his paths.”

2—When the dead rise Jesus has

OBSERVED(:12)

—Explanation:(:12) Encountered/Seen Hurt

“Now as He approached the gate of the city, behold, a dead man was being carried out, the only son of his mother, & she was a widow; & a sizeable crowd from the city was with her.”

—Argumentation:

2Chr. 16:9—“For the eyes of the LORD move to & fro throughout the earth that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely His...”

Ex. 3:7—“And the LORD said[to Moses], “I have surely seen the affliction of My people who are in Egypt, & have given heed to their cry because of their taskmasters, for I am aware of their sufferings.”

Jesus is well aware of your situation!

3—When the dead rise Jesus has

COMFORTED(:13)

—Explanation:(:13)

“And when the Lord saw her, He felt compassion for her, & said to her, “Do not weep.””

—Argumentation:

2Cor. 1:3-4—“Blessed be the God & Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies & God of all comfort; who comforts us in all our affliction so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.”

Ps. 23:4-5—“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil; for Thou art with me; Thy rod & Thy staff, they comfort me. Thou dost prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; Thou hast anointed my head with oil; My cup overflows.”

2Thess. 2:16-17—“Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself & God our Father, who has loved us & given us eternal comfort & good hope by grace, comfort & strengthen your hearts in every good work & word.”

Mat. 11:28-29—“Come to Me, all who are weary & heavy-laden, & I will give you rest. “Take My yoke upon you, & learn from Me, for I am gentle & humble in heart; & YOU SHALL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS.”

2Thes. 4:13—“But we do not want you to be uninformed, brethren, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve, as do the rest who have no hope.”

Jn. 11:25-26—“Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection & the life; he who believes in Me shall live even if he dies, & everyone who lives & believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?”

4—When the dead rise Jesus has

RESTORED(:14-15)

—Explanation:(:14-15)

:14—“And He came up & touched the coffin; & the bearers came to a halt. And He said, “Young man, I say to you, arise!”

“Came to a halt”—Procession interrupted

Ps. 46:10—“Cease striving & know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”

In order to be restored we must 1st stop the course of our lives as is.

“Arise”—Jesus’ command

:15—“And the dead man sat up, & began to speak. And Jesus gave him back to his mother.”

“Began to speak”—Unmistakable evidence—Life restored.

“Gave him back”—Jesus responsible for restoration.
