When God Says “No”

November 2, 2008 Evening Service

Immanuel Baptist Church, Wagoner, OK

Rick Boyne

Message Point: We must realize that it is GOD who is in control.

Focus Passage: I Chronicles 28:1-8

Supplemental Passage: Romans 8:28” And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.”

Introduction:

I. Praise Him for all the times He said “yes”

a. Before you get angry with God for telling you, “No,” remember all of the times that God has said “yes” to your prayers!

II. Pray and ask him for wisdom on why he said, “No.”

a. Let us remember that God is infinitely wiser than we are. We need to begin with that. God is not simply up in Heaven wanting to makes our lives less happy. He wants what is best for the kingdom. And what is best for the kingdom is what is best for the king!

III. Know that when God says, “No.” He means “No.”

a. David did not try to go around God’s directive. He did not ask God for a second opinion. God had said, “No.” And that was that.

IV. Help someone else to achieve the desires of their heart.

a. God had told him “No.” Instead of pouting and quitting, he made every effort help someone else achieve this desire.

Invitation:

Job 38:1-8 Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind and said, "Who is this that darkens counsel By words without knowledge? "Now gird up your loins like a man, And I will ask you, and you instruct Me!

"Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth? Tell Me, if you have understanding,

Who set its measurements? Since you know. Or who stretched the line on it? "On what were its bases sunk? Or who laid its cornerstone, When the morning stars sang together And all the sons of God shouted for joy?

"Or who enclosed the sea with doors When, bursting forth, it went out from the womb;

Job 42:1-6 Then Job answered the LORD and said, "I know that You can do all things, And that no purpose of Yours can be thwarted. 'Who is this that hides counsel without knowledge?' "Therefore I have declared that which I did not understand, Things too wonderful for me, which I did not know."

'Hear, now, and I will speak; I will ask You, and You instruct me.'

"I have heard of You by the hearing of the ear; But now my eye sees You;

Therefore I retract, And I repent in dust and ashes."
