When You Go into the House of the Lord

Psalm 121:1

Introduction

In our church we quote this verse every Sunday.

We are anxious to be back in the house of the Lord.

NEXT SUNDAY

When you come to church, what do you bring with you?

I. You bring your face

A. By this I mean your very presence.

B. It is right.

Hebrews 10:25 Not forsaking the assembling of

ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but

exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye

see the day approaching.

C. Just coming to church is an encouragement to

someone.

D. Just coming to church is a blessing to someone.

II. You bring your faith

A. Faith is catching.

Romans 1:17 For therein is the righteousness of

God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The

just shall live by faith.

B. We are people of faith. (John 14:1)

C. When you come to church your faith is showing.

D. When someone sees your faith, it encourages their

faith.

Philippians 1:5-6

5 Hearing of thy love and faith,

which thou hast toward the Lord Jesus, and toward

all saints;

6 That the communication of thy faith may become

effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing

which is in you in Christ Jesus.

III. You bring your fellowship

A. Fellowship is important.

1. It’s going to be a little different for a while.

- No shaking hands

- No hugging.

- Social distancing

2. It should be too long we can do all of these things

B. It was important in the early church

Acts 2:42 And they continued stedfastly in the

apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking

of bread, and in prayers.

C. Fellowship – sharing life.

1. Before, during and after the service.

- 1 John 1:3 That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.

D. In fellowship we help and encourage each other.

IV. You bring your friendship

-Proverbs 17:17 A friend loveth at all times,

-Proverbs 18:24 A man that hath friends must shew

himself friendly: and there is a friend that

sticketh closer than a brother.

-In friendship you show your love of the brethren.

-You friendship you offer a hand to shake.

V. You bring your finances.

A. Tithes

Malachi 3:10 Bring ye all the tithes into the

storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house,

and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of

hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven,

and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be

room enough to receive it

1. I believe it is right to tithe

2. 10% of all your income.

3. God promises a blessing

B. Offering

1. Above the tithe.

unto his name: bring an offering, and come into his

courts.

2. Missions giving

3. Special love offerings

VI. You bring your failings

A. No one here is perfect.

B. Church is for those who recognize their need for the

Lord.

B. In some way we have all failed the Lord.

C. We have failed in holiness

Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short

of the glory of God;

We cannot attain the perfection we need to enter

God’s presence apart for Jesus Christ.

D. We come because we recognize our need for God.

E. We often fail in our walk with Christ.

Psalms 12:1 Help, LORD; for the godly man

ceaseth; for the faithful fail from among the

children of men.

F. God is there to pick us up and help us on our way.

Psalm 37: 23 The steps of a good man are ordered

by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way.

24 Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down:

for the LORD upholdeth him with his hand.

G. God forgives our sin.

1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and

just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all

unrighteousness.

Conclusion
