Summary: Where is the power? The power is found in Christ alone! It sounds so simple, then why do we have such a problem following it.

Where Is The Power?

No matter how hard I try, I just can’t stop using profanity, lying, cheating, stealing, turning my back on God!

What I need to know is: where’s the power. Didn’t God say that He would never leave nor forsake me, then why do I find myself in these situations time after time. I ask God to forgive and to help me, but He doesn’t seem to be responding, so what I need to know is WHERE IS THE POWER? IS GOD STILL ABLE TO MOVE MOUNTAINS? IS HE STILL ABLE TO TAKE ME BY THE HAND AND RAISE ME UP OUT OF THE STORMY SEA? IS HE STILL ABLE TO GUIDE ME DOWN THE DARK AND NARROW ROAD? WHERE IS THE POWER?

Maybe these are questions you have asked in the past or maybe these are questions you are asking even as I speak to you this morning. But let me assure you that God has not lost His power! He is still able to move mountains..... You want to know where the power lies, it lies in a God who loves and cares for you and me.

Story of Church always there. Sunday morning, night, Wednesday. I still had trouble turning my back on God. Until I realized that I didn’t have a relationship with Him. I had done all these things and nothing worked, because I didn’t KNOW GOD! I found out that I couldn’t do it on my own! Many have tried, but as far as I can see none have succeeded.

(Jeremiah 24:7 states, I will give them a heart to know me, that I am the Lord...)

(Psalms 46:10 says, Be still and know that I am God...) So where is the Power? It starts in us getting to know are God!

How do we do that? How do we know God and start to tap into His power?

I. An old camp song that we used to sing went: Why so downcast oh my soul, putt your hope in God, putt your hope in God.

PUT YOUR HOPE IN GOD

Daniel 6. Story of Daniel and the Lions Den. King Darius wanted Daniel to pray to him, Daniel refused. Because he had put hope in God, and he knew that God would provide the way.

Story of Abraham. Against all hope Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations. 100 years old

II.GIVE YOUR LIFE TO GOD

My sister this past weekend decided to give her life to Christian service. In essence what she is saying is, Lord my life is in your hands. (Isaiah 64:8 says, you are the potter we are the clay, we are the work of your hands.) Sometimes we say you are the potter as long as you make me into what I want to be. As long as you don’t require too much time, as long as I get the job and life that I want. (Romans 9:20-21 says, Shall what is formed say to Him who formed it, Why did you make me like this? Does not the potter have the right to make out of the same lump of clay some pottery for noble purposes and some for common use.) As my sister in law Angie would say “Let go and let God”

III. KEEP YOUR PATH STRAIGHT

(Matthew 7:13 states, Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life and only a few find it.)

The reason it’s hard is because life is hard! There are so many ways to get distracted and turned around, but we do don’t have a spirit of timidity, but 2 Timothy 1:7 says, we have a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.) I wonder why that is, maybe it’s because we serve a God who had made us in His image. Who loves and cares for us, who wants us to know Him and have a relationship with Him, who wants us to see that He is still powerful and capable of changing lives.

Maybe this morning you see that you can’t do it on your own, that you need help. This morning we are going to sing a song of invitation for anyone who has never put their hope in God, who has never given their life to Him for anyone who has never seen and felt the power that a loving caring father has to offer.
