Summary: Self-identity is something that many people struggle to define. Several times I tend to ask people, especially the young adults and teenagers this question. Who am I? Today we will understand our identity in Christ.

Revelation 5:9-10 King James Version (KJV)

9 And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;

10 And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.

1. John had experienced a divine revelation that made him weep. From the first verse, we understand that he had heard that no one is able to open the scroll. The absence of anyone worthy weighed him down to the extent of weeping. But, an angel spoke to him and told him no it is not time to weep because there is one who has been found worthy. Yes! Jesus the Lamb of God was found worthy to open the scroll and to break the seven seals.

The announcement made the heavenly host burst into a new song. The songs illustrate what made Jesus Christ qualified to partake this noble cause. They sang he is worthy Because:

1. He was slain.

2. He has redeemed us to God by His precious blood.

Out of every kindred, tongue, people and nation. The redemption is for everyone despite their ethnicity, nationality, background or any other limitation which we use to classify people. Whoever you are whatever you are called redemption was for us all.

Jesus did not only redeem us but he gave us new identities. He purchased us for God through his blood. We are now fully owned and we belong to God. The devil has no legal right over you or me.

He also made us Kings and Priests.

These are two important offices we hold as children of God.

we are kings and the work of kings is to reign.

we are priests and the work of the priest is to serve the Lord.

So with our new identity, we should be reigning on earth and serving the Lord.

We reign by making God known to others according to 2 Corinthians 5: 20(Therefore we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making His appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ: Be reconciled to God. ) We are the ambassadors of Christ. Just like the ambassadors of other countries have authority and mandate to act on behalf of the governments they represent in foreign countries, we have the same power and authority to represent the kingdom of God here on earth.

* 1 Peter 2:9 King James Version (KJV)

9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light;

Understand your identity in Christ.

A chosen generation: Chosen means its, not a coincidence, he didn't stumble on you or by chance, NO YOU ARE CHOSEN.

A royal priesthood: Royal means you are not common or ordinary. You are of royal blood. Your staus should read ROYALTY. Elite Class.

A peculiar People: God’s special possession,

A Holy Nation: made holy sanctified by the blood of Jesus and every guilt, shame and condemnation should have no hold over your life. ( Romans 8:1-2 There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.[a] 2 For the law of the Spirit of life has set you[b] free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death.)

What to do with our new Identity:

1. Reign on earth

2. Over sacrifices to our God.

3. Show forth the Prase of Him who has called us out of darkness into His marvelous light.

Brethren we are God's special possession let us serve him in the office of kingship and in the priesthood. To bring Him all the Glory for we are His ambassadors. Amen
