Summary: This sermon deals with the coming of the Antichrist.

Who Will Be The Antichrist?

Revelation 13:1-10

1 Then I stood on the sand of the sea. And I saw a beast rising up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and on his horns ten crowns, and on his heads a blasphemous name.

2Now the beast which I saw was like a leopard, his feet were like the feet of a bear, and his mouth like the mouth of a lion. The dragon gave him his power, his throne, and great authority.

3And I saw one of his heads as if it had been mortally wounded, and his deadly wound was healed. And all the world marveled and followed the beast.

4So they worshiped the dragon who gave authority to the beast; and they worshiped the beast, saying, "Who is like the beast? Who is able to make war with him?"

5And he was given a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies, and he was given authority to continue for forty-two months.

6Then he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme His name, His tabernacle, and those who dwell in heaven.

7It was granted to him to make war with the saints and to overcome them. And authority was given him over every tribe, tongue, and nation.

8All who dwell on the earth will worship him, whose names have not been written in the Book of Life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

9If anyone has an ear, let him hear.

10He who leads into captivity shall go into captivity; he who kills with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints.

We think conditions in this world today are bad,

but after the Rapture happens and Christians are gone,

it will get much worse.

World conditions during the Tribulation will be chaotic.

A time of confusion and uncertainty will cause the people

to desperately look for a strong leader

who could bring hope and security in a time of fear.

People will desperately seek a strong, charismatic leader

who can pull the world back from the very brink of disaster.

Those people will get their wish.

A powerful leader calling for peace and unity comes forth.

However, he will turn out to be a dictator

whose cruelty will be more than any other person

the world has ever known.

This man will be the Antichrist!

He will rule the entire world and receive its worship.

Satan is a counterfeiter.

So he has an "unholy trinity" that consists of himself (Satan),

the Antichrist (the political, religious beast),

and the false prophet, (the religious, political beast).

So let’s begin looking now at Chapter 13

Verse 1 Then I stood on the sand of the sea. And I saw a beast rising up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and on his horns ten crowns, and on his heads a blasphemous name.

Remember that John is seeing visions of the future

while he is a prisoner on Patmos Island.

This “beast” that he sees is the Antichrist.

If we go back to the book of Daniel,

the meaning of these images can be found.

In Daniel chapter 2, we read about King Nebuchadnezzar.

This Babylonian king had a dream about a huge image

that he asked Daniel to interpret.

The head on this image was gold, the chest was silver,

the belly and thighs were bronze, the legs were iron,

and the toes were mixed iron and clay.

Daniel told the King that these were symbols of kingdoms to come.

He said the golden head represented Babylon.

Later chapter 8, Daniel named the 2 kingdoms

that would succeed Babylon.

The silver chest proved to be the Medo-Persian Empire.

The bronze belly and thighs proved to be Greece under Alexander.

He iron legs turned out to be the Roman Empire.

The mixed iron and clay toes symbol has yet to be fulfilled.

It will be a 10-nation kingdom.

In Daniel Chapter 7, the prophet records a dream that he had.

In that prophetic dream,

Daniel saw the rise and fall of 4 gentile empires.

He saw a lion with wings representing Babylon.

Then he saw a bear representing the Medo-Persian Empire.

He saw a leopard representing Alexander’s kingdom of Greece.

Then he saw a dreadful, terrible beast with iron teeth.

That was a symbol of the Roman Empire.

Then Daniel says about that terrible beast:

Daniel 7:7 It was different from all the beasts that were before it, and it had ten horns.

That corresponded to the image of chapter 2 with 10 toes.

The 10 horns represent a 10-nation kingdom to come.

Daniel goes on to tell about a beast coming from these kingdoms.

Daniel 7:8 I was considering the horns, and there was another horn, a little one, coming up among them, before whom three of the first horns were plucked out by the roots. And there, in this horn, were eyes like the eyes of a man, and a mouth speaking pompous words.
