Why Bible Study

John 14:12

Sermon Prayer: “Heavenly Father, I stand before Your people, to deliver Your message. Though the words are mine and I prepared this message, I pray that this message is Your message in its entirety. I pray your blessing and anointing on its delivery, its reception and most of all its application in our lives.” Amen

Everyday it's a-gettin' closer

Goin' faster than a rollercoaster

Love like yours will surely come my way

A-hey, a-hey-hey

We are really enjoying our bible study: Rick Warren’s: 40 DAYS OF PRAYER. In our prayer morning prayer time and reflection, Edna and I talk about the day’s encouragement that accompanies the study. It is common to resist homework assignments of any kind and bible study is no exception. However, Rick has structured this entire 40 days of study in a manner that is not demanding or imposing on even the most hectic of schedules. At our house, at the breakfast table, right after the meal works super well for us.

This morning as we were discussing today’s verse: “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.” John 14:12. As soon as we read it, the cute little lyrics above popped into my head and I had a hard time getting past them. There is great application in these lyrics and I realized that “every day” our FAITH is growing stronger in direct proportion to our application, dedication, communication (with God AND each other), supplication (asking in faith), and cooperation (hearing from God and responding as HE directs).

You know, this study and any of the great studies available to us, are worthless to us and to the kingdom of God if we do not take them seriously and apply the teachings enthusiastically.

Are you among those who ask, “Where does the bible say to study the Word?”

Well, I’m glad you asked. Read with sincerity and an open mind:

2 Timothy 2:15; Hebrews 4:12; Joshua 1:8; Psalm 119:105; Revelation 1:3; Romans 15:4; Proverbs 3:12; Proverbs 4:6-7; Psalm 119:15-16; 119:47-48; 2 Timothy 3:14-17; Proverbs 4:10-13; Proverbs 2:1-6; Deuteronomy 11:18-23; and of course, there are more!

But it takes MORE than merely reading and understanding – it takes dedication and application. The rewards are Peace, Hope, Ever-growing Faith and truly realizing God’s love.

Let us pray: Almighty God, Creator of All That is, we beseech you to bestow upon us each individually and our gathering as a united following a greater understanding of Your Holy Word. Help us to garner every word with understanding and the ability to apply it in our daily walk. God, we want to serve you with the greatness of that Word. We believe your message in John 14:12 and we seek to live it to the fullest. In the name of your precious Son Jesus, the Christ we pray. AMEN

Let us now go forth loving and serving God by loving and serving each other – EVERY each other.

I humbly and sincerely ask for your prayers!
