About Jonathan Russell

Education: B.S., Southeastern Baptist College M.Div., New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary Ph.D, New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary

Sermon or series that made a difference: "The Plague of the Frogs" - the sermon that grabbed my attention about God calling me to ministry "The Love of God" - the first sermon I ever preached

Family: Wife: Mandy Children: Jake and Cameron

Best advice given to me about preaching: "Don’t try to be Billy Graham. Be who God called you to be."

Books that have had an impact: J.M. Boice’s commentaries; Jim Cymbala’s books; "Reach the Back Pew"; "Spiritual Leadership"; "Purpose Driven Church:

Hobbies: Coaching TBall; Attending Mississippi Braves games; Blogging (www.insidethepastorsmind.blogspot.com)

If I could Preach one more time, I would say...: Learn the Word with your head; Love the Word with your heart; Live the Word with your hands

Something funny that happened while preaching: During a sermon I made the statement, "God wouldn’t put up with some of the crap in our homes today." My wife’s mouth hit the floor. My congregation’s eyes widened. After the service I apologized, to which one of my deacons replied: "You just called it what it is."

What I want on my tombstone: Quit Staring. I’m not here!
