Summary: There is no better rest than the rest found in the Lord.
Text: Psalms 37:7
Psalm 37:7
Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.
Introduction:
1. REST IN THE WILL OF GOD
Ephes. 5:17
Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.
A. Nothing is the will of God if it is not in accordance with the Word of God.
B. Before you can know the will of God for your life, you must be willing to do the will of God.
C. The Lord will reveal His will to His child who is yielded!
Romans 12:1-2
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. [2] And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
2. REST IN THE WORD OF GOD
(PSALMS 119)
A. God’s Word Guides Us
1. In our walk
Psalm 119:105
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
2. In our weakness
Psalm 119:107
I am afflicted very much: quicken me, O Lord, according unto thy word.
3. In our worship
Psalm 119:108
Accept, I beseech thee, the freewill offerings of my mouth, O Lord, and teach me thy judgments.
B. God’s Word Guards Us
1. By claming our fears
Psalm 119:109
My soul is continually in my hand: yet do I not forget thy law.
2. By hindering our foes
Psalm 119:110
The wicked have laid a snare for me: yet I erred not from thy precepts.
C. God’s Word Gladdens Us
Psalm 119:111-112
Thy testimonies have I taken as an heritage for ever: for they are the rejoicing of my heart. [112] I have inclined mine heart to perform thy statutes alway, even unto the end.
3. REST IN THE WORK OF GOD
Matthew 11:28-30
Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. [29] Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. [30] For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
A. His invitation
1. Come Unto Me
This is the first thing the Lord asks of us as He did His disciples.
Mark 3:13-14
And he goeth up into a mountain, and calleth unto him whom he would: and they came unto him. [14] And he ordained twelve, that they should be with him, and that he might send them forth to preach,
In order to go forth and do the work we need spend time with Him.
2. Take My Yoke Upon You
Get in to His work, not my work or our work but His work and work with Him.
3. Learn of Me
As we work with Him we’ll learn of Him.
B. His invited
1. Those that are laboring
2. Those that are laden
C. His involvement
1. I will give you rest.
2. Rest unto your souls
Why? Because His yoke is easy and His burden is light.
