INTRODUCTION: Memorial Day is primarily given to remembering those who have died, whether it be loved ones, friends, or those who have died for their country. We are instructed dozens of times in the Word of God to remember certain things. The Israelites were admonished to keep to their remembrance various days and events of their national history.

I want to call your attention to some things that are worthy of our remembrance.

I. WE SHOULD REMEMBER THE TIME AND PLACE OF OUR SALVATION.

[Have Some Of Congregation Respond By Giving The Time And Place Of Salvation.]

I remember because my mother wrote down the date and circumstances in my Bible, and what I prayed when I got saved. I remember the place because I was there, and also have a picture. But someday I may forget, and thank God my salvation is not dependent upon my memory, but God’s!

II. WE SHOULD REMEMBER THE PIT THAT WAS PRIOR TO OUR SALVATION.
Psalm 9:15
The heathen are sunk down in the pit that they made: in the net which they hid is their own foot taken.

Psalm 40:2
He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.

III. WE SHOULD REMEMBER THE PLACE WE WERE AFTER OUR SALVATION.
Rev. 2:4-5
Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love. [5] Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.

When a person falls he falls from one level to a lower level. You never fall upwards; always downward.

Jesus Said:
1. Remember.
2. Repent.
3. Return.

IV. WE SHOULD REMEMBER OUR VOWS AND COMMITMENTS.

Eccles. 5:4-5
When thou vowest a vow unto God, defer not to pay it; for he hath no pleasure in fools: pay that which thou hast vowed. [5] Better is it that thou shouldest not vow, than that thou shouldest vow and not pay.

A. Our Vows To God.
1. Maybe to teach a S/S class.
2. To witness more often.
3. To live a holy life.
4. To answer His calling in our lives.

B. Our Vows To Our Spouse. Relate the violation of these to the divorce rate in America.
1. To love.
2. To honor.
3. To cherish.
4. To keep self for the other.

C. Vows To Others.
1. To pray for a certain need.
2. To offer what help they need.

V. WE ARE TO REMEMBER OUR BRETHREN.

A. (1 Tim 4:6) If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ…

B. Intercessory Prayer. (1 Sam 12:23) Moreover as for me, God forbid that I should sin against the LORD in ceasing to pray for you…

C. (2 Tim 1:3) I thank God, whom I serve from my forefathers with pure conscience, that without ceasing I have remembrance of thee in my prayers night and day;

There was a time when people were more concerned for friends than they were for themselves.

VI. WE ARE TO REMEMBER THE TRUTHS OF GOD.

A. (John 14:26) But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things

The best part I enjoyed is the American Memorial Day which Pastor Jerry expressed so passionately. However, I don''t think immigrants are all the problem. I came into this country 12 years ago and bit my tongue those early years at the spate of court cases by the ACLU against everything GOD, everything you listed in that area of the sermon. Alas, the courts were upholding those ridiculous anti-God cases. I think there are more groups within than immigrants when it comes to working against the wishes of the founding fathers of this great nation. Yet, I still give you all 5 stars for your intensive study and for sharing.

An inspiring sermon for troublesome times, it should be preached in every church in America. God bless you, Jerry Shirley

I would have to partially disagree with Bro. Back. I would agree with him if HE KNOWS Bro. Jerry''s congregation and it is applicable. I would disagree with him if he does not know the congregation. Hopefully (I beleive it is so) Bro. is developing these messages to meet the needs of whom he is preaching to using the scripture and Holy Spirit as the foundation. Based on that premise, the purpose is not to impress us but rather to obey God and preach a message that is needed. One of the greatest preachers of our denomination, one time, told me "Only 50% of church members in a typical Baptist Church are saved." He furthere stated that of those who never come except to Hatch, Match, and Dispatch about 90% are unsaved. Those whom are regular at at 90%. May God richly bless you Brother Jerry.

Thanks Pastor Jerry: I liked the sermon but I think you were preaching to the Choir a little bit. We all do sometimes. When it comes to Old Paths it time to come out hiding behind the pulpits and preach not worring about our members. Easily said but not so easily done.
