Summary: A sermon on the "all"s of Philippians 4.

DEVOTIONAL MESSAGE

TITLE - All In All In Christ

TEXT - Phil. 4: 1-23

INTRO. - There are certain outstanding words in the Book

of Philippians repeated again and again throughout the

book. One word that stands out is the word Joy or

Rejoice -- see 1:4, 1:18, 1:24-25, 2:2, 2:16, 2:17-18,

2:28, 3:1, 4:1, 4:10, etc...

Another word repeated often in Philippians is Mind or

Minded -- see 1:27, 2:2, 2:3, 2:5, 2:20, 3:15-16, 4:2,

4:7

But the word I want us to look at for a few minutes this

hour is the word "All". It and the word "always" are

found throughout the book.

Notice a few: Ch. 1:1 - all saints

1:4 - praying for all

1:9 - all judgment

1:13 - all the palace

2:14 - do all things without murmuring

2:21 - all seek their own

3:8 - I count all things but loss

But I want us to look at chapter 4. Chapter 4 shows us

that at Philippi there were problems of defeatism in

vs.1, disunity in vs.2, and depression in vs.4. Look at

the word "All" as it appears in chapter 4 and God’s

message to us.

I. GOD SAYS TO REJOICE IN THE LORD ALL THE TIME - vs. 4

Real joy comes through forgiveness of sin and living

right in the Spirit. It is a fruit of the Spirit.

Disunity, defeatism, and depression all destroy joy.

How do you rejoice in the Lord all the time? Give your

all to Jesus and trust him with all your heart.

II. BE A WITNESS TO ALL MEN - vs. 5

"Moderation" in this verse means "gentleness".

One of the best ways to end spiritual depression is to

get out and win someone to Jesus. The angels in heaven

will rejoice and so will you!

III. HAVE THE PEACE THAT PASSES ALL UNDERSTANDING - vs.7

How? By being careful or anxious for nothing, prayerful

for everything, and thankful for anything - vs 6. We are

many times like Martha in Luke 10:41, we are careful

(anxious) about many things. I Pet. 5:7 - "Casting all

your care upon him for he careth for you". Jesus said,

"My peace I leave with you."

IV. BE CONTENT WITH AND IN ALL THINGS - vs. 11- 12

You can be if you really believe that God loves and take

care of his children, if you believe God is still in

control and that all things work together for good to

them who love the Lord.

V. YOU CAN ACCOMPLISH ALL THINGS - vs. 13

This is speaking about all things you can do and should

do in the will of God for the glory of God.

Rom. 8:37 - We are more than conquerors thru him.

VI. YOU HAVE ALL YOU WILL NEED TO SERVE GOD - vs. 18

Verse 19 says God will supply all you need.

"My God" - the Source

"shall supply" - the surety

"all your need" - the sufficiency

"according to his riches in glory" - the standard

"by Christ Jesus" - the Supplier

VII. CHRIST WILL BE WITH ALL OF US - vs. 23

God said "I will never leave you nor forsake you"

The "all" in this verse refers to God’s children.

Are you one of God’s children.
