Summary: An 85 year old Christian lady passed unexpectedly. She wanted a celebration for her life.

Welcome and Scripture Reading

Psalm 46

God is our refuge and strength,

an ever-present help in trouble.

2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way

and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,

3 though its waters roar and foam

and the mountains quake with their surging.

4 There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,

the holy place where the Most High dwells.

5 God is within her, she will not fall;

God will help her at break of day.

7 The LORD Almighty is with us;

the God of Jacob is our fortress.

"Be still, and know that I am God;

I will be exalted among the nations,

I will be exalted in the earth."

The LORD Almighty is with us;

the God of Jacob is our fortress.

35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? 36 As it is written,

"For your sake we are being killed all the day long;

we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered."

37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8.35-39

Obituary

"Shock and surprise" are two words to describe the passing of Dorine Watson. None of us, not even the medical staff at the hospital expected Dorine to pass away. She told Joe Wallace and me that she did not want to leave the hospital until she was well. She achieved her goal in a different way than we expected. She is well today in the presence of God.

1. Qualities:

a. Faithfulness --

Always early to our HBD Class; Bible student; served with the Ladies Unity Team and as a Greeter to welcome people to worship on Sunday mornings

Got Emily and Glen back to church

Some favorite Bible Passages:

b. Serving -- Sewing

* Dorine was a talented and fast seamstress. Emily and sister had new dresses every day for school -- best dressed kids at school

* Served others as Dorcas -- Acts 9.36-42

36 Now there was in Joppa a disciple named Tabitha, which, translated, means Dorcas. She was full of good works and acts of charity. 37 In those days she became ill and died, and when they had washed her, they laid her in an upper room. 38 Since Lydda was near Joppa, the disciples, hearing that Peter was there, sent two men to him, urging him, "Please come to us without delay." 39 So Peter rose and went with them. And when he arrived, they took him to the upper room. All the widows stood beside him weeping and showing tunics and other garments that Dorcas made while she was with them. 40 But Peter put them all outside, and knelt down and prayed; and turning to the body he said, "Tabitha, arise." And she opened her eyes, and when she saw Peter she sat up. 41 And he gave her his hand and raised her up. Then calling the saints and widows, he presented her alive. 42 And it became known throughout all Joppa, and many believed in the Lord. 43 And he stayed in Joppa for many days with one Simon, a tanner.

* Willingness to be an organ donor

2. Loved Family

Glen's gift to her -- special relationship with her

Loved her grand and great-grandchildren

Very proud of Nick and his skill as a Rope -- also of his daughter, Sidney

3. Joyful -- This funeral service was to be a joyous event

4. Patriotic and supported troops

Did Dorine suspect it was time to go? We were all surprised by her departure. Maybe she knew.

2 TIMOTHY 4:6-8: "6For I am already being poured out like a drink offering, and the time has come for my departure. 7I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day--and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing."

I. A Reality to Our Leaving

A. We know we are for God -- Ecclesiastes 12.13

B. We know we are here for a short time -- James 4.14

C. We know we will leave this world -- Ecclesiastes 9.5

D. We know we are in for a battle while we are here -- fought the fight; finished the race
