"VICTORY SONG” Exodus 15:1-21

REVIEW

I. God designed a difficult situation 14:1-9

II. The people developed a destructive spirit 14:10-12

III. God dictated a definite strategy for deliverance 14:13-18

IV. God delivered a distinct solution 14:19-31

V. The People delivered a dazzling Song of praise 15:1-21

As 2 plus million grateful people gathered on the opposite side of the Red Sea which had once blocked their progress and watched the bodies of Egyptian warriors and their horses which had threatened to destroy them wash up on the shore a sense of gratitude and praise filled the whole camp and Moses led them in a most powerful song of praise to the Lord who delivered them.

I. Reasons to Sing of the Lord 15:1-5

This had to be a hurriedly composed praise event. Moses, inspired by the Holy Spirit, led the people to focus on the wonder of the God who chose them. Moses began by expounding reasons to exalt the Lord.

A. He is highly exalted 15:1a

Then Moses and the sons of Israel sang this song to the LORD, and said, "I will sing to the LORD, for He is highly exalted

The grandest purpose for singing of and to the Lord is because He is King over all the earth.

He is above every god. The obvious demonstration of His absolute rule over all the earth and His exalted position is the destruction of the enemy.

B. He has defeated the enemy 15:1b

the horse and its rider He has hurled into the sea. Exodus 15:1

God defeated the most powerful tool of Satan at the time. God utterly humiliated every object of veneration and worship in the world at that time. God disarmed all of the demonic strongholds of Egypt. This unknown God whose name was Yahweh is not the God of the valley, or the sea or the hills. This exalted God is the Lord of all and deserves to be the object of our praise and subject of our songs. God continually annihilates opposition and obliterates obstacles. Jesus Christ defeated Stan through His life, death and resurrection.

The Son of God appeared for this purpose, to destroy the works of the devil. 1 John 3:8b

When God had disarmed the rulers and authorities, He made a public display of them, having triumphed over them through Him (Christ). Col. 2:15

"And when the Holy Spirit comes, He will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment; concerning sin, because they do not believe in Me; 10and concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father and you no longer see Me; 11and concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged. John 16:8-11

God predicted the defeat of the enemy the same day the enemy scored the first victory over mankind.

And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed;

He shall bruise you on the head, and you shall bruise him on the heel." Genesis 3:15

Therefore, since the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise also partook of the same, that through death He might render powerless him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, 15and might free those who through fear of death were subject to slavery all their lives. Hebrews 2:14-15

The last enemy that will be abolished is death. 1 Cor. 15:26

8He will swallow up death for all time, and the Lord GOD will wipe tears away from all faces,

And He will remove the reproach of His people from all the earth; for the LORD has spoken.

9And it will be said in that day, "Behold, this is our God for whom we have waited that He might save us.

This is the LORD for whom we have waited; let us rejoice and be glad in His salvation." Isaiah 25:8-8

Not only does our highly exalted God decidedly defeat the enemy but He dramatically delivers us.

13For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, 14in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. Col. 1:13-14

36Just as it is written, "For Your sake we are being put to death all day long; we were considered as sheep to be slaughtered." 37But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us. Rom 8:36-37

14But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and manifests through us the sweet aroma of the knowledge of Him in every place. 2 Cor. 2:14

11"And they overcame him because of the blood of the Lamb and because of the word of their testimony, and they did not love their life even when faced with death. Rev. 12:11

Jesus spoke of some lakefront property prepared by God for Satan and all his followers.

41"Then He will also say to those on His left, 'Depart from Me, accursed ones, into the eternal fire which has been prepared for the devil and his angels; Matthew 25:41

Revelation documents the ultimate defeat of Satan and eternal torment.

And the devil who deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are also; and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever. Rev. 20:10

God broke the power of the enemy over his children.

"Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing will injure you. 20"Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are recorded in heaven." Luke 10:19-20

We praise Him because He is highly exalted. We praise Him because He has defeated the enemy and delivered His children.

C. He is my strength and song 15:2a

"The LORD (Yah) is my strength and song,

The people affirmed in their song that without the help of the LORD, they would never have escaped bondage and would have nothing to sing about. They sang to the one who made His name known to them and to all of Egypt by word and works.

The LORD is my strength and my shield; My heart trusts in Him, and I am helped; Therefore my heart exults, And with my song I shall thank Him. Psalm 28:7

The LORD is my strength and song, and He has become my salvation. Psalm 118:14

I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, 19and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe. These are in accordance with the working of the strength of His might Ephes. 1:18-19

I can do all things through Him who strengthens me. Philip. 4:13

We sing to the Lord because…

He is exalted above all other powers.

He defeated the enemy and his weaponry

He is our strength.

D. He is my salvation 15:2b

And He has become my salvation;

Here is the obvious reason for a song of praise. God saved them. God saves us not only initially but continually.

See Titus 3:3-7

E. He is my God 15:2c

This is my God, and I will praise Him; My father's God, and I will extol Him.

They affirmed the personal connection to God as the one who chose them as a people. This powerful, conquering Lord who is over all the earth and brought salvation was their God.

This personal connection as the people of God inspires response.

“I will praise (beautify) Him.”

“I will exalt Him.” Lift up, display

It is impossible to lift the Most High any higher than He is. It is impossible to make Him any more beautify than He already is. We can only draw attention to what is already true by our words, our actions, our art, our music. He is our God. The Lord is my Shepherd. He is my loving Father

So also we, while we were children, were held in bondage under the elemental things of the world. 4But when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law, 5so that He might redeem those who were under the Law, that we might receive the adoption as sons. 6Because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying, "Abba! Father!" Therefore you are no longer a slave, but a son; and if a son, then an heir through God. Galatians 4:3-7

F. The one whose name is Yahweh is a warrior 15:3-5

“Warrior” = one who makes war or does battle. Pharaoh would no longer question the one who called Himself Yahweh. Yahweh, the warrior buried the best Pharaoh and his demonically driven army had to offer into the sea. Moses clearly outlined the reason for such praise and adoration. We equally have reason to praise and exalt our Lord. He is King of kings and Lord of lords. He has defeated Satan and will eventually sink him and his army like a rock in the Lake of Fire. He is our strength and reason for singing. He is our light and salvation; our very life.

He is our Father; Abba Father; Daddy. He is our Mighty Warrior.

Verbal Response: “The LORD is…”

II. Reasons to Sing To the Lord 15:6-18

Moses sang his song directly to the Lord in the next twelve verses. He sang of the wonders of His wonderful works on their behalf.

A. You annihilated the arrogant enemy 15:6-10

B. You cannot be compared to anyone 15:11-13

Can’t compare Him to any other powers earthly or heavenly. Holy! All powerful. Victorious

Loving leader Promise keeper See Isaiah 40:18-26

C. You are feared among the nations 15:14-16

John 6:37-40

For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus. Philip. 1:6

D. You will keep your promises 15:17

Verbal Affirmation of Hope: “LORD, You will…”

E. You reign forever 15:18

"The LORD shall reign forever and ever."

III. Sing to the Lord 15:19-21

Miriam the prophetess, Aaron's sister, took the timbrel in her hand, and all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dancing. Miriam answered them, "Sing to the LORD, for He is highly exalted; the horse and his rider He has hurled into the sea."
