Summary: A study on the Book of Romans

Would God Send A Whole World To Hell

Rom 1:18-32

18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness,

19 because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them.

20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse,

21 because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened.

22 Professing to be wise, they became fools,

23 and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man-- and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things.

24 Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves,

25 who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.

26 For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature.

27 Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.

28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting;

29 being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers,

30 backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,

31 undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful;

32 who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.

Paul teaches us the power of the gospel message. A person can not appreciate the good news until they hear the bad news. A person does not seek to escape from a fire if he is not aware that he is in great danger.

Orge (wrath) refers to a settled, determined indignation. In God’s case it is a perfect hatred, just as His love is a perfect love.

Ps 76:7

7 You, Yourself, are to be feared; and who may stand in Your presence when once You are angry?

In the days of Noah God destroyed a whole world save eight. In the days of Abraham, God destroyed two great cities, Sodom and Gomorrah, with only Lot and his family escaping. He poured out His wrath on His own people at times, on kings, and on prophets. And in the new Testament these words are still found...

John 3:16-18

16 "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

17 "For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.

18 "He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

John 3:35-36

35 "The Father loves the Son, and has given all things into His hand.

36 "He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him."

II Th 1:7-10

7 and to give you who are troubled rest with us when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels,

8 in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.

9 These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power,

10 when He comes, in that Day,...

God has revealed His wrath...

1. Conscience (2:15) 2. Health

3. Cursed the earth 4. Death

5. History 6. Against individuals

7. God gave them up 8. Calvary

God’s wrath is basically reveal in one of two ways:

1. Through His moral order (You reap what you sow)

2. Through direct intervention (You will be disciplined)

The righteousness of God is revealed and so is the wrath of God.

God’s wrath is universal, being discharged against all who deserve it. No amount of goodwill, giving to the poor, helpfulness to others, or even service to God can exclude a person from all.

What is it revealed against sin...

1. Ungodliness - basically to God

2. Unrighteousness - basically to man

Godliness comes first then righteousness.

They suppress the truth...

they know it but do all they can to hold it down.

Ps 7:11

11 God is a just judge, and God is angry with the wicked every day.

This way of presenting the gospel is God’s way of converting a sinner to Himself. We should not give “easy gospel”. Grace is free but is not cheap. We should do nothing to cheapen the work of the Lord. If He wants His wrath revealed first to an unbeliever then we should obey.

No one can say, “I didn’t know that there was even a God” God personally has put a knowledge of Himself in every human. To deny God is to deny and lose yourself.

How can a loving God be so angry?

Surely God is too loving and gracious to send anyone to hell, everyone ultimately will go to heaven.

The Times in London reported that 14 church study groups looked into the OT Psalms and concluded that 84 of them were “not fit for Christians to sing.” They reasoned that the wrath and vengeance reflected in those psalms was not compatible with the Christian gospel of love and grace.

If you could invent God, what would He be like? Look at

Isa 13:1-9

1 The burden against Babylon which Isaiah the son of Amoz saw.

2 "Lift up a banner on the high mountain, raise your voice to them; wave your hand, that they may enter the gates of the nobles.

3 I have commanded My sanctified ones; I have also called My mighty ones for My anger-- those who rejoice in My exaltation."

4 The noise of a multitude in the mountains, like that of many people! A tumultuous noise of the kingdoms of nations gathered together! The LORD of hosts musters the army for battle.

5 They come from a far country, from the end of heaven-- the LORD and His weapons of indignation, to destroy the whole land.

6 Wail, for the day of the LORD is at hand! It will come as destruction from the Almighty.

7 Therefore all hands will be limp, every man’s heart will melt,

8 And they will be afraid. Pangs and sorrows will take hold of them; they will be in pain as a woman in childbirth; they will be amazed at one another; their faces will be like flames.

9 Behold, the day of the LORD comes, cruel, with both wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate; and He will destroy its sinners from it.

Nahum 1:1-6

1 The burden against Nineveh. The book of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite.

2 God is jealous, and the LORD avenges; the LORD avenges and is furious. The LORD will take vengeance on His adversaries, and He reserves wrath for His enemies;

3 The LORD is slow to anger and great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked. The LORD has His way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of His feet.

4 He rebukes the sea and makes it dry, and dries up all the rivers. Bashan and Carmel wither, and the flower of Lebanon wilts.

5 The mountains quake before Him, the hills melt, and the earth heaves at His presence, yes, the world and all who dwell in it.

6 Who can stand before His indignation? And who can endure the fierceness of His anger? His fury is poured out like fire, and the rocks are thrown down by Him.

Maybe we see this as OT.

Matt 3:4-7

4 And John himself was clothed in camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his waist; and his food was locusts and wild honey.

5 Then Jerusalem, all Judea, and all the region around the Jordan went out to him

6 and were baptized by him in the Jordan, confessing their sins.

7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, "Brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

Matt 3:11-12

11 "I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

12 "His winnowing fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clean out His threshing floor, and gather His wheat into the barn; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire."

Jesus spoke more about judgement and hell than anyone else in Scripture. Was He seeker sensitive or was He God sensitive?

Matt 5:21-22

21 "You have heard that it was said to those of old, ’You shall not murder,’ and whoever murders will be in danger of the judgment.

22 "But I say to you that whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment. And whoever says to his brother, ’Raca!’ shall be in danger of the council. But whoever says, ’You fool!’ shall be in danger of hell fire.

Matt 5:29-30

29 "If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell.

30 "And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell.

Matt 8:10-12

10 When Jesus heard it, He marveled, and said to those who followed, "Assuredly, I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel!

11 "And I say to you that many will come from east and west, and sit down with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven.

12 "But the sons of the kingdom will be cast out into outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth."

Matt 10:14-15

14 "And whoever will not receive you nor hear your words, when you depart from that house or city, shake off the dust from your feet.

15 "Assuredly, I say to you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city!

Matt 10:28

28 "And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

Paul said...

2 Cor 5:9-11

9 Therefore we make it our aim, whether present or absent, to be well pleasing to Him.

10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.

11 Knowing, therefore, the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are well known to God, and I also trust are well known in your consciences.

Acts 24:24-25

24 And after some days, when Felix came with his wife Drusilla, who was Jewish, he sent for Paul and heard him concerning the faith in Christ.

25 Now as he reasoned about righteousness, self-control, and the judgment to come, Felix was afraid and answered, "Go away for now; when I have a convenient time I will call for you."

Eph 5:3-17

3 But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints;

4 neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks.

5 For this you know, that no fornicator, unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.

6 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.

7 Therefore do not be partakers with them.

8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light

9 (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth),

10 finding out what is acceptable to the Lord.

11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them.

12 For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret.

13 But all things that are exposed are made manifest by the light, for whatever makes manifest is light.

14 Therefore He says: "Awake, you who sleep, arise from the dead, and Christ will give you light."

15 See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise,

16 redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

17 Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is.

R.A. Torry wrote: “Shallow views of sin and of God’s holiness, and of the glory of Jesus Christ and His claims upon us, lie at the bottom of weak theories of the doom of the impenitent>”

The wrath of God was the great motivation for the early saints tireless service in winning the lost.

John Knox: “Give me Scotland or I die.”

Hudson Taylor to China: “I feel I cannot go on living if I do not do something for China.”

Henry Martin in India: “Here I am in the midst of heathen midnight and savage oppression. Now, my dear Lord, let me burn out for Thee.”

Adoniram Judson missionary translator of the Bible to Burma: “Lord, let me finish my work. Spare me long enough to put the saving Word into the hands of the people.”

Of James Chalmers, a Scottish missionary to South Sea Islands, was so burdened for the lost that someone wrote of him, “In Christ’s service he endured hardness, hunger, shipwreck, and exhausting toil, and did it all joyfully. He risked his life a thousand times and finally was clubbed to death, beheaded, and eaten by men whose friend he was and whom he sought to enlighten.”

Robert Arthington was unable to go overseas so he gave over $500,000 to the work of foreign missions: “Gladly would I make the floor my bed, a box my chair, and another box my table, rather than that men should perish for the want of the knowledge of Christ.”

George Rogers said that God’s “righteous anger never rises, never abates; it is always at flood tide in the presence of sin because He is unchangeably and inflexibly righteous”

Why is God justified in His wrath?

Because of the revelation of Himself to all mankind.

-they are without excuse.

-no man can find God on his own initiative or by his own wisdom or searching. But God has never left man to his own initiative and understanding, but has provided abundant evidence of Himself.

This was Paul’s argument at Mars hill...

Acts 17:22-31

22 Then Paul stood in the midst of the Areopagus and said, "Men of Athens, I perceive that in all things you are very religious;

23 "for as I was passing through and considering the objects of your worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Therefore, the One whom you worship without knowing, Him I proclaim to you:

24 "God, who made the world and everything in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands.

25 "Nor is He worshiped with men’s hands, as though He needed anything, since He gives to all life, breath, and all things.

26 "And He has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined their preappointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings,

27 "so that they should seek the Lord, in the hope that they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us;

28 "for in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, ’For we are also His offspring.’

29 "Therefore, since we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Divine Nature is like gold or silver or stone, something shaped by art and man’s devising.

30 "Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent,

31 "because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead."

V18 Human history began with man knowing God. Human history is not the story of a beast that worshipped idols, and then evolved into a man worshipping God.

Examples: Some birds navigate by the stars. Even if hatched and raised in a windowless building, if shown an artificial sky, they immediately are able to orient themselves to the proper place to which tomigrate.

The bombardier beetle separately produces two different chemicals, which, when released and combined, explode in the face of an enemy. Yet the explosion never occurs prematurely and never harms the beetle itself.

Our earth rotate on its axis at the precise tilt as to give us enough land mass to feed the planet.

Any given time there are 1800 storms on our planet. !,300,000,000 horsepower is needed to generate these storms. A large tractor has 420 horsepower and requires 100 gallons of fuel a day to operate.

The average farmer in Minnesota gets 407,510 gallons of water free of charge every year.

Each single cell in our body is more complicated than a city. Each cell must build a complete, exact duplicate of itself.

The human heart is about the size of your fist. Adult heart weighs less than a half of a pound, yet can do enough work in 12 hours to lift 65 tons one inch off the ground.

A water molecule is composed of only three atoms. But if all the molecules in one drop of water were the size of a grain of sand, they could make a road one foot thick and a half mile wide that would stretch from Penticton to Florida.

Our galaxy has over 100 million stars. We are one of 100 million galaxies with 100 million stars. To travel across it at the speed of light (186,000 miles per second) would take 125,000 years.

There are over 10 million species of insects, including 2,500 varieties of ants.

The earth is 25,000 miles in circumference, weighs 6, 588,000,000,000,000,000 tons and hangs unsupported in space. It spins at 1,000 miles hour and goes around the sun at 1,000 miles per minute in an orbit 580 trillion miles long.

Proof to young planet.

Sun shrinks 5 feet a day if 1 million years old it would be big enough to set our earth on fire. No life exists in fire.

Moon has only 2 1/2 inches of cosmic dust. Should have 24 feet if 4 billion years old.

Godhead - should be translated deity because we do know see God completely in nature.

What did they do even though the knew God?

1. They did not glorify Him as God

2. They were not thankful to Him as God.

They thought they knew more. The pride of life to know more than God. To have a higher end than God.

Futile - foolish

The battle is in the mind. Thoughts lead to actions.

Eph 4:17-19

17 This I say, therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you should no longer walk as the rest of the Gentiles walk, in the futility of their mind,

18 having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardening of their heart;

19 who, being past feeling, have given themselves over to lewdness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.

1 Cor 2:13-14

13 These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

14 But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

V22 They say about themselves, “I am wise”

“Fools” Morons

The worst sin in the universe is to not honor God.

The Westminister Shorter Catechism says, “The chief end of man is to glorify God and to enjoy Him forever.”

1 Cor 10:31

31 Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

V23 Would you not be a fool to trade a penny for a million dollars if money was your end in life?

Exod 20:1-7

1 And God spoke all these words, saying:

2 "I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

3 "You shall have no other gods before Me.

4 "You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth;

5 you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me,

6 but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.

7 "You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.

Deut 18:9-12

9 "When you come into the land which the LORD your God is giving you, you shall not learn to follow the abominations of those nations.

10 "There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, or one who practices witchcraft, or a soothsayer, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer,

11 "or one who conjures spells, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead.

12 "For all who do these things are an abomination to the LORD, and because of these abominations the LORD your God drives them out from before you.

(NKJ)

These people exchange God for a god they can make. Why do we want a god of our won making?

1. To control it and not be controlled

2. To have a sense of power, our god needs us.

3. To take away anything we don’t like, such as the wrath.

4. To satisfy this worship longing in us.

5. To make the invisible God, visible.

Hinduism has 330 million gods, amounts to 8 gods per family.

They worship a 2 inch long tooth that is to have belonged to Buddha. They have it in a golden lotus blossom surrounded with rubies and enshined in the Temple of the Tooth in Sri Lanka.

We see this worship in our native Indian culture. Totems are in honor and worship of the creatures.

Isa 44:9-17

9 Those who make an image, all of them are useless, and their precious things shall not profit; they are their own witnesses; they neither see nor know, that they may be ashamed.

10 Who would form a god or mold an image that profits him nothing?

11 Surely all his companions would be ashamed; and the workmen, they are mere men. Let them all be gathered together, let them stand up; yet they shall fear, they shall be ashamed together.

12 The blacksmith with the tongs works one in the coals, fashions it with hammers, and works it with the strength of his arms. Even so, he is hungry, and his strength fails; he drinks no water and is faint.

13 The craftsman stretches out his rule, he marks one out with chalk; he fashions it with a plane, he marks it out with the compass, and makes it like the figure of a man, according to the beauty of a man, that it may remain in the house.

14 He cuts down cedars for himself, and takes the cypress and the oak; he secures it for himself among the trees of the forest. He plants a pine, and the rain nourishes it.

15 Then it shall be for a man to burn, for he will take some of it and warm himself; yes, he kindles it and bakes bread; indeed he makes a god and worships it; he makes it a carved image, and falls down to it.

16 He burns half of it in the fire; with this half he eats meat; he roasts a roast, and is satisfied. He even warms himself and says, "Ah! I am warm, I have seen the fire."

17 And the rest of it he makes into a god, his carved image. He falls down before it and worships it, prays to it and says, "Deliver me, for you are my god!"

False worship leads to sexual perversion. Worship is to know God. To know is to be intimate, open, transparent. If we worship false gods they lead us to still be intimate so we go into perversion.

Many false religions have some kind of sexual perversion at its base. Naked sacrifices, temple prostitution, sexual favors, etc.

V24 When God gives a person over, hell begins. Sin is the punishment of sin. We find that God is no idle spectator, He still is in control.

3 times God gives them up v24, 26, 28.

God is warning us, if man abandons God, God will abandon man.

Ps 81:8-16

8 "Hear, O My people, and I will admonish you! O Israel, if you will listen to Me!

9 There shall be no foreign god among you; nor shall you worship any foreign god.

10 I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt; open your mouth wide, and I will fill it.

11 "But My people would not heed My voice, and Israel would have none of Me.

12 So I gave them over to their own stubborn heart, to walk in their own counsels.

13 "Oh, that My people would listen to Me, that Israel would walk in My ways!

14 I would soon subdue their enemies, and turn My hand against their adversaries.

15 The haters of the LORD would pretend submission to Him, but their fate would endure forever.

16 He would have fed them also with the finest of wheat; and with honey from the rock I would have satisfied you."

God gave them up to uncleanness.

-They begin to not be able to keep sexual commitments of purity.

-They begin to lust for many others instead of one.

God brings order, once He pulls away in “common sense” perversion and chaos reign.

V26 The fact that the women have become degraded shows just how bad the situation is. Women usually are the last to leave the relationship of the family unit.

Lev 20:13

13 ’If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They shall surely be put to death. Their blood shall be upon them.1 Cor 6:18-20

18 Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body.

19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?

20 For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.

There are only two kinds of people, male and female. There are not homosexuals and heterosexuals, there are only heterosexuals that know that they are heterosexual and heterosexuals that do not know they are heterosexuals.

Homosexuality:

1. An abandonment of God to degrading passions.

2. Movement from passions to deviant behaviors.

3. Continue in indecent acts until conscience hardens.

4. Mind and life begin to breakdown.

Joseph Nicolsi, expert on therapy for homosexual behavior:

1. There is no scientific evidence of a homosexual gene or any of the politically correct explanations of homosexually. No one is born a homosexual any more than one is born a murderer or a thief. A choice must first occur.

2. Actual fact: Long-term relationships are almost nonexistent among homosexuals. Study of 165 homosexual couples who claimed that they tended to live together in a long-term monogamous relationship with only each other. Couples who retained fidelity for 5 years = Zero.

3. In the USA it is not uncommon for a homosexual to have up to 300 sexual partners in a year.

When one rejects the spiritual, they soon live on the sensual.

When God lets us alone we naturally degrade.

Depraved minds - depraved is that of not standing the test. The term is used of metals that were rejected by the refiners because of impurities.

V29 Paul gives the list of 24 sinful behaviors. Some personal, some general, some social and some particular.

filled to the brim with evil.

- maliciousness = a inward viciousness towards others.

-whispers = gossips

-undiscerning = no insight into true life.

-untrustworthy = covenant breakers (Marriage, family, business)

John 3:19-21

19 "And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

20 "For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed.

21 "But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God."

V32 Knowing = they are not ignorant victims.

Ellen on TV is a known Lesbian. She was honored when she came forward or “out of the closet”. Sit-coms are now common place where at least one of the actors are homosexual.

Hollywood is now having us accept the abnormal as normal.

God supports capital punishment on crimes a lot less severe than we are use to.

We must judge these things as ungodly. We must not let these behaviors and mindset in the life of our church. We are to judge with a righteous judgement those amongst us.

John 7:21-24

21 Jesus answered and said to them, "I did one work, and you all marvel.

22 "Moses therefore gave you circumcision (not that it is from Moses, but from the fathers), and you circumcise a man on the Sabbath.

23 "If a man receives circumcision on the Sabbath, so that the law of Moses should not be broken, are you angry with Me because I made a man completely well on the Sabbath?

24 "Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment."

Matt 18:15-18

15 "Moreover if your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault between you and him alone. If he hears you, you have gained your brother.

16 "But if he will not hear, take with you one or two more, that ’by the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.’

17 "And if he refuses to hear them, tell it to the church. But if he refuses even to hear the church, let him be to you like a heathen and a tax collector.

18 "Assuredly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.

1 Cor 5:9-13

9 I wrote to you in my epistle not to keep company with sexually immoral people.

10 Yet I certainly did not mean with the sexually immoral people of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or idolaters, since then you would need to go out of the world.

11 But now I have written to you not to keep company with anyone named a brother, who is sexually immoral, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or an extortioner-- not even to eat with such a person.

12 For what have I to do with judging those also who are outside? Do you not judge those who are inside?

13 But those who are outside God judges. Therefore "put away from yourselves the evil person."

1 Cor 6:1-6

1 Dare any of you, having a matter against another, go to law before the unrighteous, and not before the saints?

2 Do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if the world will be judged by you, are you unworthy to judge the smallest matters?

3 Do you not know that we shall judge angels? How much more, things that pertain to this life?

4 If then you have judgments concerning things pertaining to this life, do you appoint those who are least esteemed by the church to judge?

5 I say this to your shame. Is it so, that there is not a wise man among you, not even one, who will be able to judge between his brethren?

6 But brother goes to law against brother, and that before unbelievers!

I Jn 4:1
