God said through the Angel "Is anything too hard for the Lord?" is found in Genesis 18:14. Then through the Prophet Jeremiah God’s Word then give the answer to this most important question is found in Jeremiah 32:17, "There is nothing too hard for thee." Here you have the all-important question and the thrilling answer from the inspired Word of God that there is nothing too hard for God to do. The 18th chapter is very interesting. There are at least seven great questions asked in Genesis, chapter 18. These are found in verses 9, 12, 13, 14, 17, 23, and 25. We want to look at these questions and it gives us a little insight as to how great our God is. Any one of these would make a great text for a sermon.
I. Question one: Genesis 18:9 And they said unto him, Where is Sarah thy wife? And he said, Behold, in the tent.
A. We cannot hide from God. Man has tried from the time of Adam and Eve to hide. God knows everything, all the time and where we are.
II. Question two: Genesis 18:12 Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After I am waxed old shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also?
In the Garden of Paradise, man hid from God in the garden; now man hides within himself. Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen
Doubt makes the mountain which faith moves.
Doubt sees the obstacles; faith sees the way.
Doubt sees the darkest night; faith sees the day.
Doubt dreads to take a step; faith soars on high;
Doubt questions, "Who believes?" Faith answers, "I
III. Question three: Genesis 18:13 And the LORD said unto Abraham, Wherefore did Sarah laugh, saying, Shall I of a surety bear a child, which am old.
Feed your faith and your doubts will starve to death. The opposite of fear and doubt is faith.
We need to hear the Word of the Lord!
IV. Question four: Genesis 18:14 Is any thing too hard for the LORD? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.
A. Have you noticed that Paul wrote as if every Christian had experienced signs and wonders?
B. Nothing is too hard for the Lord to do. He specializes in things though impossible.
V. Question five: Genesis 18:17 And the LORD said, Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do;
A. The Lord does not hide what He will do for us. Romans 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
(1 Cor 2:10 KJV) But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.
(Deu 29:29 KJV) The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.
VI. Question six: Genesis 18:23 And Abraham drew near, and said, Wilt thou also destroy the righteous with the wicked?
A. God loves the whole world. John 3:16. He desires that all would be save and none lost.
VII. Question seven: Genesis 18:25 That be far from thee to do after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked: and that the righteous should be as the wicked, that be far from thee: Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?
A. God is the great Judge and He will judge all righteously on that last day.
B. God judges a man, not by the point he has reached, but by the way he is facing; not by distance, but by direction. James S. Stewart
In the day when all men will stand before God, the significant question for each of us will no longer be what we think of Christ, but what he thinks of us. Elva J. Hoover
Jesus, thy blood and righteousness
My beauty are, my glorious dress;
’Midst flaming worlds, in these arrayed,
With joy shall I lift up my head.
Bold shall I stand in thy great day;
For who aught to my charge shall lay?
Fully absolved through these I am-
From sin and fear, from guilt and shame.
Count Nikolaus Ludwig von Zinzendorf (1700-1760)
