A. Under the old testament, no one is greater than John, the Baptist

"Truly I tell you, among those born of women there has not risen anyone greater than John the Baptist;"

Ephesians 2:3 (Amplified Bible)

Among these we as well as you once lived and conducted ourselves in the passions of our flesh [our behavior governed by our corrupt and sensual nature], obeying the impulses of the flesh and the thoughts of the mind [our cravings dictated by our senses and our dark imaginings]. We were then by nature children of [God’s] wrath and heirs of [His] indignation, like the rest of mankind.

John 1:12 (Amplified Bible)

But to as many as did receive and welcome Him, He gave the authority (power, privilege, right) to become the children of God, that is, to those who believe in (adhere to, trust in, and rely on) His name—

We were in darkness before but GOD saved us through the LORD JESUS CHRIST who made us and gave us rights to become children of GOD.

Psalms 51:5 (Amplified Bible)

Behold, I was brought forth in [a state of] iniquity; my mother was sinful who conceived me [and I too am sinful].

Job 25:4 (Amplified Bible)

How then can man be justified and righteous before God? Or how can he who is born of a woman be pure and clean?

For the Law and the Prophets (the old testaments books) are up until the time of John, the Baptist.

Matthew 11:13 (Amplified Bible)

For all the Prophets and the Law prophesied up until John.

B. Yet in the new testament, he who is least in the Kingdom of Heaven is greater than John, the Baptist

"yet he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he"

1 Peter 1:10 (Amplified Bible)

The prophets, who prophesied of the grace (divine blessing) which was intended for you, searched and inquired earnestly about this salvation.
