  • Comment to those looking at my sermons: Try to "hear" me as you read them.
  • One of my favorite illustrations: From Max Lucado about his daughter at the park. She was playing in the sandbox. She put a handful of sand in her mouth. Now, did I love my daughter? Sure. Did I love her even after she put sand in her mouth? Of course. Did I leave the sand there? No way. I picked her up and took her to the drinking fountain and cleaned the sand out of her mouth. I love her just the way she is, but I refuse to leave her that way. God deals with us in the same way. He loves us just as we are, but he refuses to leave us that way.
  • Family: Lovely wife of 14 years, three sons.
  • What my parents think of my sermons: They like them. At least, that’s what they tell me.
  • What my spouse (really) thinks of my sermons: Their ok. She wishes I had more time to hone them, though.
  • Best advice given to me about preaching: Love your people no matter what.
  • Books that have had an impact: The Great Divorce by C.S. Lewis The Proper Distinction of Law and Gospel by C.F.W. Walther. Church and Ministry by C.F.W. Walther Wild At Heart by John Eldredge Epic by John Eldredge
  • Hobbies: Golf, excercise, reading.
  • If I could Preach one more time, I would say...: Jesus lived the perfect life, died the perfect death, and rose from the dead --- for you!
  • Something funny that happened while preaching: While it didn’t happen to me, it is the funniest story I’ve ever heard about something happening during preaching. "In the middle of the sermon I was looking at the people as I was preaching to them and I noticed something whisk by the door to the narthex. I didn’t think much of it, as it distracted me but a little, and continued. A few seconds later, that something whisked by the other way. This continued for about a minute and then that "something" walked into the sanctuary and down the aisle of the church. I could only stop preaching, say "amen" and sit down. It was the biggest dog I had ever seen with a huge, bright, red bow tied around his neck."
  • What I want on my tombstone: Why are you looking for the living among the dead?
