About Melanie
  • Education: I was trained as a secretary, and much later as a Methodist local preacher.
  • Experience: I have been involved in young people’s ministry, local preaching and Good News (outreach) teams.
  • Comment to those looking at my sermons: I do English spellings.
  • Sermon or series that made a difference: The Holiness of God.
  • One of my favorite illustrations: Anything humourous.
  • Family: I have a husband called Geoff, a daughter called Philippa and a son-in-law of seven months called Ian.
  • What my parents think of my sermons: My father had died and my mum has dementia.
  • What my spouse (really) thinks of my sermons: He says they are very good. (He’s under a lot of pressure!)
  • Best advice given to me about preaching: Don’t rush.
  • Books that have had an impact: Apart from the Bible: Mere Christianity by C. S. Lewis, He Chose the Nails by Max Lucado, Evidence that Demands a Verdict by Josh McDowall.
  • Hobbies: I like singing (I’m a soprano), and theatre. I run drama workshops for young people.
  • If I could Preach one more time, I would say...: Your salvation is by Grace alone.
  • Something funny that happened while preaching: In a country pulpit I found a notice which I thought needed reading out so I did, it read: "The Local Preachers’ Meeting has decided that no sermon will last longer than 7 o’clock in the evening." dated 16 December 1916.
  • What I want on my tombstone: God hasn’t finished with me yet.
