About Scott
  • Education: I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Bible from Freed-Hardeman University, a small Church of Christ in TN.
  • Experience: I began preaching part-time when I was just fifteen years old, however it was when I was just three years old that I knew I would one day be a preacher. I continued to preach for a small congregation in Illinois all through high-school and then another, in Tennessee, while in college. After graduating I began preaching full time in northern Illinois, then moved to Saint Louis, then southern IL.
  • Comment to those looking at my sermons: Use anything you want! No need to give me credit, all the credit goes to Jesus!
  • Sermon or series that made a difference: I can't think of any one particular sermon or series, but I owe so much to radio preachers/teacher such as John MacArthur, Chuck Swindoll, Charles Stanely, David Jeremiah, and Hank Hannegraaff. I also owe much to my own personal pastors and teachers, such as Ray Exum, Billy Smith and Mike Root.
  • One of my favorite illustrations: It’s a quote I use often from Mark Twain. He once said, "Be careful to take from an experience only the wisdom that is in it."
  • Family: My wife, Ashley, and I have been happily married since February 2005, are thankful everyday for Jesus and his matchless grace, and are the proud parents of three adorable little ankle-bitters (Yeshua, Sarai, & Avigayle).
  • What my parents think of my sermons: My mom is very proud. My grandpa said I preach "better than Billy Graham." lol
  • What my spouse (really) thinks of my sermons: I don't know... she rarely hears them since she's pre-occupied with children's church. But she has many compliments when she does get to hear me.
  • Best advice given to me about preaching: "If you can see yourself doing something else, then do it. Being a preacher requires complete dedication."
  • Books that have had an impact: Just Like Jesus; 3:16; Next Door Savoir; Apocolypse Code; The Promise
  • Hobbies: I am a huge comic book/superhero enthusiast. I even dress in spandex twice a year: once for the annual Superman celebration in Metropolis, IL and once for Halloween.
  • If I could Preach one more time, I would say...: God loves. God gives. We believe. We live.
  • Something funny that happened while preaching: One time when I was asking for prayer requests, a little boy who was visiting for the first time said, "My sister needs prayer because she lies. One time she was flashing her flashlight in my eyes when I was trying to sleep. Finally I took it away and flashed it in her eyes and told her 'how do you like it.'"
  • What I want on my tombstone: He loved God and loved the people God gave him.

  • Easter 2015: Empty Promises Of Easter

    Contributed on Mar 22, 2016
    based on 3 ratings

Let's examine the promises of Easter. Each promise is marked by something empty—an empty cross, empty clothes, and an empty cave. It is the very fact that each of these is empty that assures us God's promises are not.

EASTER: EMPTY PROMISES Scott Bayles, pastor Blooming Grove Christian Church: 3/27/2016 I just want to take a moment to thank everyone for choosing to spend Easter morning with us here at the Grove. Whether you’ve been coming to the Grove all your life, or this is your first time more

God’s Not Grey Scott Bayles, pastor Blooming Grove Christian Church: 2/15/2015 If yesterday was like Valentine's Days of the past, over $1 billion was spent on chocolate, 180 million cards were exchanged, and 196 million roses were sold! Unless you’re Charlie Brown, you’ve more

What lies beyond death's door? The Bible describes three realms: Hades, Hell and Heaven. The second in this three-part sermon series, this sermon explores what the Bible really says about Hell and final punishment.

Afterlife: Hell Scott Bayles, pastor Blooming Grove Christian Church: 5/24/15 Have you heard about the farmer from Illinois who died and went to Hell? The Devil really wanted to punish him, so he put him to work breaking up rocks with a sledgehammer. To make it worse he cranked up the more

  • Even Billy Graham Doesn’t Win Them All. ...

    Contributed on Dec 18, 2012

Even Billy Graham doesn’t win them all. There’s a story about Billy Graham when he was visiting a city for one of his crusades. He had written a letter to his wife and was looking for a place to mail it. Outside the lobby of his hotel, he came across a young boy. He asked the boy if he knew how to more

    based on 2 ratings

THE FORBIDDEN FRUIT And the first thing God told Adam and Eve was: "Don't." "Don't what?" Adam replied. "Don't eat the forbidden fruit," God said. "Forbidden fruit? We got forbidden fruit? Hey, Eve . . . we got Forbidden Fruit!" "No way!" "Yes WAY!" "Don't eat that fruit!" said more

  • Beautiful Feet?

    Contributed on Mar 14, 2012
    based on 1 rating

BEAUTIFUL FEET? The Bible says, in Romans 10:15, "How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace..." (NKJV). I don't know about you, but when I think about beautiful things, feet don't rank very high on my list. Feet are sweaty and stinky. Did you know that your feet have more

  • We Often Don't Realize How Good We Have It Here ...

    Contributed on Dec 1, 2011

We often don't realize how good we have it here in America. The film, End of Spear, tells the true story of five missionaries--including Jim Elliot and Nathan Saint--who were speared to death by the murderous Waodani tribesman living in the jungles of Ecuador. Amazingly, the wives and children more

  • I Don't Want To Be A Saint...

    Contributed on Dec 1, 2011
    based on 2 ratings

"I DON'T WANT TO BE A SAINT..." So the Bible clearly teaches that everyone who has been sanctified and set apart by God is a saint. I read a story earlier this week about a Wisconsin mom who was trying to teach her kids how God sees them. She told them that when they receive Jesus as Savior that more
