Shakespeare once wrote:

"there is a tide in the affairs of men, Which, taken at the flood, leads on to fortune;

Omitted, all the voyage of their life Is bound in shallows and in miseries."

The Latins had a phrase that expressed the same idea:

"Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero," which translates, "Seize the day; put no trust in tomorrow!"
