Consumers Are Losing Faith in many companies they deal with, and companies aren’t doing much to stop it, says a new Datamonitor report. 86% percent of U.S. and European consumers have become more distrustful of corporations within the past 5 years. What do people trust? Word of mouth recommendations from friends, family, or colleagues are more trustworthy than corporate generated content. Socially responsible companies are considered more trustworthy. A good track record in business ethics is influential. Aligning with a cause works for some. Brands are rooted in the trust consumers place in them. Trusting consumers tend to forgive mistakes.
