Oscar Greene Learns About Compliance and Exercising Due Diligence

As I start to sit down, now, listen to the story of the African-American Episcopalian lay leader, Oscar Greene, of West Medford, Massachusetts! One day, he was invited to serve as a Bank Director! He was hesitant to accept the position because - up until that time - his banking experience had been limited to making deposits and withdrawals - primarily and mostly withdrawals! However, the Bank President said to him, "Oscar, join us, you’ll learn from us and we’ll learn from you!" Oscar Greene joined the Board of Directors and there he learned two (2) terms that resounded around the Board Room: compliance and due diligence! The questions thundered from regulators and examiners: "Are you in compliance? Have you exercised due diligence? Are you observing the rules? Are you doing the best that you can do?"

As I take my seat, now, know that Oscar Greene is retired from the Board of Directors today; but, he still asks himself these questions: "Do I strive to know and to do Almighty God’s Will? Am I doing the best that I can do in Christ Jesus? Am I in compliance with Almighty God’s Word? Have I exercised due diligence?" Tell me, "How would you answer those questions?"
