Jesus climbs in the boat with us; he steps into our lives, our homes, our workplaces, and he says, “I want you to come with me." We can try and run from it and throw out all the excuses we want, but that doesn’t change God’s call.

Through this parable of the nets and fish, Jesus is telling disciples then and now that we don’t get to decide who’s in and who’s out. Our only concern should be to be good fish.

As much as this passage reminds us of our need to go regularly to the places where we encounter Christ, it is also an assurance that when we need Christ, he will make his presence known.
