Marriage, growing togeather through the commitment that is made to one another, and Christ’s example of sacrifice.Passage 1 John 4:7-12 and 16
The scripture that ----- and ----- have chosen for their reading from John’s first letter is rich with the word love, in fact love or loved is mentioned fifteen times. The love that John is talking about is divine love the kind of love that only comes from God and being in relationship with God. ...read more

John described the saved and who they are, how they love God and their fellow humans - there is no empty words, they act to bring others to a relationship with the one who matters most, the one they really do love!
Sermon 1 John 5:1-12 You most likely know I’ve just returned from holiday and have that post holiday fuzziness thing going on, I spent a great time with Terry the first week doing the whole father son catch up road trip up around Nelson and over Takaka way, we managed to walk to Harwood’s ...read more

Something wonderful, The Word - The Light had come John was a first hand witness! This is his introduction to freedom as people walked in the light. It madehis joy complete to tell the news!
The letters that are contained in the New Testament are written to the early church to give an understanding to the people of God, that extends beyond what they already knew, I’m keen to do a series on the letters of John. A little bit of background on these letters from a start. John was the ...read more

What motivates your Christian walk? John tells his readers two things old things but also a new thing...Walk as Jesus walked!
1 John 2:1-14 What motivates? Last week when I started this series I finished on verse 2 of chapter 2 of 1st John. But hey I’m doing the Sermon overlap thing here as we can all do with a reminder of our sins being forgiven. John’s purpose for writing was so the people he was writing to ...read more

Have you ever thought I wonder what the will of God is for my life? It could be honouring (that’s New Zealand-English, not a spelling mistake) others so that they too will do the will of God. This is about a culture of honour.
In this time in history the basic desires, the basic drives of the human being are pretty much the same as they have been for all of history. In John’s first letter of three which incidentally I’m working through a series on, we get this directive from this great Apostle, who walked along side ...read more

Remain in Christ, there are many antichrists about, they want to take you from the truth to some sort of half truth that suits their thinking. A half truth is a vapour, a lie, that will never led to life.
Remain! What a way to start an address to a congregation. Or even better a great way to tuck the kids in at night. Imagine this, as a wee tacker, just wrapped up tight and this is the bed time story! “Dear children, this is the last hour; and as you have heard that the antichrist is coming, even ...read more

The love of God is more than we can understand, but he has lavished it upon us! How do we understand that, how do we respond to that?
How great the Fathers love; lavished! There are some truly magnificent things that can happen in a person’s life. The foundations of true friendship as you meet people for the first time and you know that there will be a bond between you. I have friends like this that after years we can ...read more

We know the love of God, because of what Jesus did for us. We obey his leading on our lives and we are confident before God. We are able through our lives to lead others to salvation to show them the example of the Holy Spirit at work in our lives!
We know - we obey - we have confidence! 1 John 3:16-24 There’s this thing about love that is a feeling thing and I know I’ve discussed all sorts of love songs and their meanings before and the thoughts of love that people have for love another. I was somewhere recently where there was a ...read more

As we obey the two great commands we overcome the world. Living for God, serving all people.
Overcome the World! How deep the Fathers love for us! (Stuart Townend) How deep the Father’s love for us, How vast beyond all measure That He should give His only Son To make a wretch His treasure How great the pain of searing loss, The Father turns His face away As wounds which ...read more
