CHRISTMAS MEANS…?
Introduction:
1. Anticipation of the birth of Jesus by Joseph and Mary.
2. Our celebration of Christmas.
3. Different reactions to the birth of Christ, then and now.
It’s all about…
The Profit
1. Then: The innkeeper. Business was booming and there was no more rooms.
2. Now: Business is booming. Sorry, no room.
It’s all about…
The Praise
1. Then: The angels. With great excitement and joy they praised God.
2. Now: We praise and glorify God for what He has done. Christ must be at the center, it’s His birthday we are celebrating.
It’s all about…
The Proof
1. Then: The shepherds. They wanted to see it for themselves. Once they did, they praised God.
2. Now: Some are looking for the proof of a Messiah. They will have to find it living within Jesus’ family.
It’s all about…
The Power
1. Then: King Herod. Messiah or not, he was not losing his power and authority.
2. Now: Some miss the point of the birth, life, death, and resurrection of Jesus because they are seeking power and prestige.
It’s all about…
The Pursuit
1. Then: Magi (Wise Men). They were not interested in political or religious games. They were pursuing the truth.
2. Now: We need to not spend our time playing political and religious games. We must pursue the truth.
Conclusion:
1. Christmas is not about the money, the gifts, or even the gatherings of friends and family.
2. Christmas is about the birth of the Savior.
3. Pursue Jesus Christ this Christmas!
