5 Reasons God Is Good

This Thursday, we will recognize a day in our land that most definitely needs to not be forgotten. That day is Thanksgiving. I believe we live in a very ungrateful, self-satisfying world that has forgotten how to be thankful. I am proud to be an American and I am thankful for the price that many a great man has paid for my freedom. It would be nice to say everyone is thankful for what is theirs, but many are not.

I believe with all my heart this morning that Christians have the most to be thankful for! The reason why is because we serve a great God! Psalm 48:1 states; “Great is the Lord; and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in the mountain of His holiness.”

I say again we serve a great God! we should be thankful that our God is great! I would like to talk to you about 5 reasons why God is great.

God is great because of His:

I. Grace

1. According to Webster’s, grace is, “the unmerited love and favor of God toward men.”

2. Man deserved to die and be separated from God, but God chose to give us grace.

3. God is a great God. Romans 5:8

4. God sent His Son to die for your sins wand mine and there is no other way to explain this other than it is God’s grace.

5. Christ represents the grace of God.

6. Are you thankful for God’s grace?

II. Redemption

1. Hebrews 9:12

2. Because of God’s grace, redemption was made possible through Christ’s death and resurrection.

3. All who repent on the Lord Jesus Christ are redeemed according to Ephesians 1:7

4. Aren’t you glad you can sing, “Redeemed by the blood of the Lamb, Redeemed and who’s child and forever I am.”?

III. Endurance

1. The Psalmist says, “His mercy endureth forever.” 118:1-4

2. Human love is not forever.

a. It is not longsuffering like God’s love.

b. Human love can never compare in depth to God’s love.

3. God’s steadfast love endures.

a. It last’s not just a day, week, month, year.

b. It lasts forever!

4. Are you thankful today for God’s love and endurance?

IV. Affection

1. This love involved a price, a promise, a people.

2. 1 John 4:8, tells us that God is love.

3. Aren’t you glad that we belong to a great God?

4. A God of great everlasting affection.

V. Truth

1. There are so many deceivers in the world, but you can trust God because of His truth.

2. John 8:32

3. Jesus is the way we know truth and the freedom from bondage.

4. John 14:1-6

Aren’t you glad you serve a great God?

Aren’t you thankful we belong to a great God?

On this Thanksgiving Day, we all can be thankful for our great God.

And remember, God is great because of His:

1. Grace

2. Redemption

3. Endurance

4. Affection

5. Truth
