Summary: You cannot meet God and remain the same. You will be changed by an encounter with Him.

A. PSALM 100 (ELT)

“Lord, I shout with joy to You; everyone from every nation joins me. I worship as I enter Your presence with singing because You, Lord, are my God. You made us and we belong to You; we are Your people and the sheep of Your pasture. Lord, I come into Your gates giving thanks; I enter the courts with praise. I bless Your holy name by giving thanks for all You’ve done for me. Lord, You are good, Your mercy is everlasting, and Your truth endures forever” (Psalm 100, ELT).

B. INTRODUCTION

1. This was a Psalm to accompany a “thank offering” (Leviticus 7:12), given/offered by a godly person who was especially grateful for a specific victory or blessing from God. “Come into My gates giving thanks” (v. 4). The word “thanksgiving” means “thanks offering.”

2. Verses 1-3 sung by worshippers as they approached the gates of the temple to sacrifice, presentation. Verses 4-5 were sung in response by a choral group already inside, acceptance.

3. Two actions:

a. First, to approach God, (vv. 1-3).

b. Second, to worship God, (vv. 4-5).

4. Three calls to serve:

a. First, to make a joyful sound, i.e., shout to Me (with yielded bodies).

b. Second, “worship as you enter” (v. 2), with yielded hearts.

c. Third, come into “My presence with singing” (v. 3), with yielded lives.

5. Three causes to serve:

a. First, the Lord is great, “I am the Lord” (v. 3), (power).

b. Second, I made you, My creation.

c. Third, you are My people, My control and direction.

6. Three calls to worship.

a. First “enter My presence” (v. 10), begin right.

b. Second, “giving thanks” (v. 4), right attitude.

c. Third, “bless My name” (v. 4), right words.

7. Three causes to worship:

a. First, “The Lord is good (v. 3, KJV), My nature.

b. Second, “My mercy is everlasting” (v. 5), My attributes.

c. Third, “My truth endures forever” (v. 4), My actions.

8. Six reasons to worship Me, your Lord and God:

a. First, because you are glad.

b. Second, because you have a joyful song.

c. Third, because you know Me the Lord your God.

d. Fourth, because I created you.

e. Fifth, because you are My people.

f. Sixth, because you are My sheep.

9. Three things to do in corporate worship, (v. 4):

a. First, give a thanksgiving offering, give tangible.

b. Second, praise God, audible.

c. Third, thank God for specific blessings, gratitude.

C. WORSHIP

1. Worship should be an emotional, intellectual, and volitional response to God. Total personality. Worship is a face-to-face involvement with the living God. Magnify Me by giving the “worthship” due to Me.

2. Steps in worship:

a. Prepare – you must get ready to worship Me.

b. Examine – you must look within to remove anything that hinders your vision of Me.

c. Expectation – you must believe that I exist, and I will meet with you and accept your worship (Hebrews 11:6).

d. Seek – worship is not overcoming My acquiesce but laying hold of My desire to meet with you (John 4:23-24).

e. Quiet – “Be still and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10).

f. Pinnacle – Just as a mountain must have a peak, worship must lift Me to the highest point of your life. Synonyms for worship: magnify, adore, exalt, praise, love, etc.

g. Transform – you cannot meet God and remain the same. You will be changed by a face-to-face encounter with Me.

We use many emotions in prayer. We pray reverently, silently, thankfully, and meditatively. But when our hearts overflow with excitement, and we cannot contain ourselves, we shout for joy. Lord, my joy is spilling over, and I cannot contain myself so I shout my praise to You as loud as I can with all my heart. Amen.

If you have never really accepted Jesus as your personal Savior, would you do it right now? Do not delay or put it off. If you would like to receive Christ by faith, pray this simple prayer in your heart:

Dear Lord, I acknowledge that I am a sinner. I believe Jesus died for my sins on the cross, and rose again the third day. I repent of my sins. By faith I receive the Lord Jesus as my Savior. You promised to save me, and I believe You, because You are God and cannot lie. I believe right now that the Lord Jesus is my personal Savior, and that all my sins are forgiven through His precious blood. I thank You, dear Lord, for saving me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

If you prayed that prayer, God heard you and saved you. I personally want to welcome you to the family of God and rejoice with you.
