Summary: This is a Mother’s Day sermon.
“A Challenges for Mothers”
Scripture Reading: Proverbs 31:10-31
Text: Proverbs 31:30 & 31
Favour (Charm) is deceitful, and beauty is vain (passing): but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.
Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.
Women have been very influential in the world ever since she was created by God. Some have been influential for the good and some have been influential for evil. One well known woman that comes to my mind that has been influential in the United States is Rosa Parks. The black lady who helped to break down the wall of prejudice against the black people. She was a good influence. Queen Jezebel was very influential in helping lead the Children of Israel away from God. The greatest women who has had the greatest influence on the whole world are Mothers.
Dr. Robert A. Rohm gives this illustrations of a woman who was influential in his life as a boy. “In the early 1950’s, every Tuesday night, a faithful, single lady drove 50 miles from Atlanta to Griffin, Georgia, to teach a flannel-graph Bible story to a group of unruly boys. I know they were unruly because I was one of them! She taught us a wonderful lesson every week. Because she was such a good teacher and so well prepared, we didn’t have time to misbehave as much as we would have liked. We tried—but she kept on loving us and teaching us. To this day, I still sense her love for our little class. Now, we who were in that class are all grown. Nearly everyone who attended those classes is now in full-time Christina work. Love is a powerful force.”
I was reading a Mother’s day card that was addressed to a Mother from her Husband. There was a part that said “ I see our love through the eyes of our children.” There is something about a real Mother’s love. One has stated: “She’s a mystery to most. She’s mind-boggling to many. She’s the virtuous woman described in Proverbs 31:10-31.”
A True Mother must have a desire of being a Godly woman. In todays constantly shifting culture of values and expectations, a woman of God needs to anchor their lives in the timeless truths of Scripture and the examples of the Godly women (and men) of the Bible. I would like to leave with you six guidelines to successful living a Godly life. Men you can use these guidelines in your life also.
1. Make Knowing God the Top Priority in your Life.
2. Commit to Knowing and Living in Truth.
3. Seek Healthy Christian Relationships.
4. Find a Godly Mentor.
5. Becoming a Godly Mentor.
6. Maintain Realistic Expectations.
In this 21st century we need to remember Women of God were the last to leave the cross of Christ and the first to arrive at the empty tomb. Since that time, rules and roles for women have changed dramatically. Yet as the twenty-first century continues to unfold, one constant remains amid personal transitions and cultural upheavals: Like their biblical ancestors, women of God still worship, serve and proclaim His goodness with their words and with their deeds.
