A LETTER OF CONCERN-

BE SEPARATE FROM THE WORLD

1 Corinthians 10:14-22

Introduction:

I look at Christians and Churches from all over the World and I see such a difference. I look at Pastor Welnar in the Philippines; and he is so dedicated and focused on spreading the Gospel of Jesus, regardless of the hurdles he and his young Congregation face. I look at Pastor Kayode and see that same dedication.

I look at Christians and Churches in the USA and I don’t see the same dedication to the Gospel. I see a dedication to appearance and comfort. What’s the difference between these Christians and Churches? It is the choice of fitting in with the World or being separate from the World. So how do you separate yourself from the World?

1 Corinthians 10:14

You separate yourself from the world by…

1. Running from idolatry.

Idolatry is simply something or someone that you put ahead of God. That can be possessions, family, Church, work, etc… Paul tells us to flee from idolatry. This means without hesitation. Anytime you are faced with choosing between God or anything else; run to God.

1 Corinthians 10:15

You separate yourself from the world by…

2. Being sensible.

Paul tells them to be sensible and judge for themselves. In order to be sensible, you have to think about what you are doing and make godly decisions. When you make decisions, ask yourself, “What does the Bible have to say about this”?

1 Corinthians 10:16-17

You separate yourself from the world by…

3. Being a part of the Body of Christ.

The cup of thanksgiving is most likely the 3rd cup that was drank during the Passover Feast. This cup is the cup that Jesus talked about to the Apostles during the Last Supper. The Lord Supper represents the body and the blood of Jesus that He sacrificed for the sins of the world. Notice, there is only 1 Body of Christ. All Christians are a part of the Body of Christ. We all have Christ in common.

1 Corinthians 10:18-22

You separate yourself from the world by…

4. Not having divided loyalties.

You cannot serve at the Lord’s table and the table of demons. Who are you loyal to- God or the world? You cannot be loyal to both. Christians, you do not want to arouse God’s jealousy.

Conclusion:

Before we partake of the Lord’s Supper, each of us must examine our own lives.
