Summary: Why did Abraham believe God? Why did he call those things which were no as though they were? This sermon looks at the real elements of Faith.

The Word FROM God Romans 4:17

17(As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.

Why did Abraham believe God? Why did he call those things which were no as though they were? At first glance one would say because of Abraham’s faith, but I want us to look at a deeper reason. Not to negate his faith but to show why he had that type of faith.

Abraham not only had faith in God, but he had the "word of God" or as I like to call it, the "word FROM God." That is a big difference. Many people have the "word of God," but do they have the "word FROM God? When one has the "word FROM God" things have to happen. Look at Abraham, in his old age the word from God was that he would have a son from his own loins. Impossible in man, became possible in God. But why? Because Abraham had faith? Not alone. I can assure you that faith in God alone will not work.

Here is what separates the have from the have knots. It is that "word FROM God!" Abraham did not have faith in something he wanted on his own. He had faith in what God wanted for him. God chose Abraham, not the other way around. And because God gave Abraham that word from God, Abraham was able to call those things which were not as though they were. Simply because God had made the promise. That is the key. When God’s word goes forth it will not return void but will accomplish all that it sets out to do. It is the promise, the word FROM God that makes faith work.

People are not receiving what they have faith for unless the word from God is issued to do such. I truly believe that is why so many people are living a defeated spiritual life. They have the misgiving idea that all they have to have is faith and they will receive from God. I will tell you this, if you will first get faith in God that he is the rewarded, then you pray and get the "word FROM God," you faith will see you through until you receive the promise."
