Philippians 2:1-18

I. The Necessary Example—Jesus (v. 1-11)

a. Necessities of the church (v. 1)

i. Trust in Christ

ii. Encouragement because of love

iii. Spirit-filled gatherings (John 4:23-24)

iv. Compassion among believers (Colossians 3:12; John 13:34-35)

b. Production of the church (v. 2-4)

i. Unity (v. 2)

1. In mind (1 Corinthians 1:10)

2. In love (Ephesians 4:1-3)

3. In spirit (Romans 15:5; 1 Corinthians 6:17; Ephesians 4:4; Philippians 1:27)

4. In purpose (1 Corinthians 3:8)

ii. Humility—selfless not selfish (v. 3-4; Philippians 1:15-17; Galatians 5:26)

c. Attitude example Jesus provides (v. 5-11)

i. Did not take advantage of His position (v. 5-6)

II. The Necessary Practice (v. 12-13)

John 4:23-24— 23"But (A)an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father (B)in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers.

24"God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship (C)in spirit and truth."

Colossians 3:12— 12So, as those who have been (A)chosen of God, holy and beloved, (B)put on a (C)heart of compassion, kindness, (D)humility, gentleness and (E)patience;

John 13:34-35— 34"A (A)new commandment I give to you, (B)that you love one another, (C)even as I have loved you, that you also love one another.
