John 1 v. 10 - 14

Jesus comes to earth

Note

1. HIS RESIDENCE - v. 14 "And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth."

dwelt or tabernacled among us

His was a:-

(a) Short Visit - 33 years

(b) Significant Visit - It was pure, powerful, purposeful

(c) Supreme Visit - John 7 v. 46 "The officers answered, Never man spake like this man."

2. HIS RADIANCE - v. 14 "And we beheld his glory" The glory of:-

(a) His Person - Matthew 17 v. 2 "And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light." -

(b) His Purpose - v. 3 "And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him." Moses and Elijah - talking with him (his decease)

(c) His Presence - v. 4 "Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias."

(d) His Preeminence - v. 5 "While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him."

3. HIS REJECTION v. 10 & 11 "He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. He came unto his own, and his own received him not." Note:-

(a) The Test - "He came unto his own"

(b) The Tragedy - "his own received him not"

(c) The Triumph - "But as many as received him"

4. HIS RECEPTION - v. 12 "But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:" - How?

v. 13 "Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God."

- not :-

(a) Of Human Origin

(b) By Human Effort

(c) But by Heavenly Grace - v. 12 "But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:"
