This sermon encourages Christians to actively engage in spiritual warfare, using divine weapons provided by God, and to pray unceasingly for strength and wisdom.

Introduction

Beloved congregation, we stand today on the precipice of a profound revelation, a revelation that will surely strengthen our faith and fortify our hearts. We gather here not as mere spectators, but as active participants in a glorious drama, a drama that unveils the grandeur of our God and the power He bestows upon us. We are not bystanders in this spiritual battle; we are soldiers, armed with divine weapons, ready to deflect the enemy's attacks.

In the words of the esteemed preacher Charles Spurgeon, "To be a Christian is to be a warrior...The good soldier of Jesus Christ must not expect to find ease in this world: it is a battlefield." Yes, dear friends, we are in a battlefield, but not one fought with earthly weapons. Our battle is spiritual, and our weapons are divine. Let us turn our hearts and minds to the Scripture, Ephesians 6:10-20:

"Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should."

This passage, dear friends, is our guide, our blueprint, our battle plan. The Apostle Paul instructs us to put on the full armor of God, to stand firm against the powers of darkness, and to pray without ceasing.

Delineating the Spiritual War

The spiritual war we find ourselves in is not one of flesh and blood. It's not a physical battle that we fight with swords and shields, but a spiritual one. We are not fighting against people, but against spiritual forces of evil. This is a battle that takes place in the heavenly realms, not on earthly battlefields. It's a war that is fought with divine weapons, not earthly ones.

These spiritual forces of evil are not just random, chaotic entities. They are organized and structured. They have a hierarchy and a chain of command. They are ruled by the devil, who is described in the Bible as the prince of this world. These forces are constantly at work, trying to undermine the work of God and lead people away from Him.

This spiritual war is not a distant, abstract concept. It's a reality that we face every day. Every time we are tempted to sin, every time we face trials and tribulations, every time we are persecuted for our faith, we are experiencing the spiritual war. It's a war that affects every aspect of our lives, from our personal relationships to our professional lives to our spiritual growth.

This spiritual war is not a passive event. We are not mere spectators, watching from the sidelines. We are active participants. We are soldiers in this war, called to fight against the spiritual forces of evil.
