BEHOLD THE LAMB John 1:29 (quickview)  The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world. I - The SUBSTITUTIONARY LAMB "lamb" - Lambs were commonly used for sin offerings in the O.T. - Two lambs were killed EVERY DAY at 9 A.M. & 3 P.M. - Every year a lamb was slain for the Passover - The lamb was the substitute for Israel's sins. - Jesus, the Lamb of God, was our substitute. - He died in OUR PLACE! - Isa. 53:4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. 5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. II - The SUPERNATURAL LAMB "of God" -All the lambs that were offered in the Bible - were chosen by men. -Jesus was chosen, appointed, approved, and accepted by GOD Philippians 2:9 (quickview)  Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. III - The SACRIFICIAL LAMB "which taketh away the sin" -Through his sacrifice He takes away The POLLUTION of SIN The POWER of SIN. The PENALTY of SIN. -Rev. 5:6 And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, 9 And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation; IV - The SUFFICIENT LAMB "of the world" -The O.T. sacrifices were at times just for a person, maybe a family, and once a year for a nation. -Jesus, the LAMB of GOD, was offered as a SACRIFICE for the ENTIRE WORLD! -And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
