BUILDING A BETTER LIFE

By Wade Martin Hughes, Sr Kyfingers@aol.com

I. TO BUILD A BETTER FAMILY AND A BETTER LIFE WE NEED GOOD, REGULAR

COMMUNICATION...

1 Tim. 6:18 That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute,

willing to communicate;

A. COMMUNICATION INVOLVES TWO PARTS...

1. USE YOUR BRAIN BEFORE YOU OPEN YOUR MOUTH

2. ABILITY TO SPEAK

3. THE ABILITY TO LISTEN

B. I received a email the other day.

A pastor of a larger church wrote he was disappointed as he left church, he felt like his sermon

was bad and he had failed...

We must learn sometimes we can not go by feelings.

C. Sometimes you feel like a nut and sometimes you don't.

I feel like I've done well; other times, maybe not as much.

D. I learned the hard way many years ago that most all ‘people problems’ are due to ineffective,

unclear, less-than-honest communications. I've always said, 'good and more' 'communication

will cut down and often cut out a majority OF OUR PROBLEMS.

E. And sometimes even the best communicators are thwarted by poor listeners or listeners with

filters that are misunderstood.

F. We face many issues or problems. So, when communicating -

Most of us would do well to take more time thinking of what and how we will say something,

before we say it.

Hebrews 13:16 But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.

G. FROZEN COMMUNICATION LINES AND POOR COMMUNICATION HINDERS GROWTH.

As Michael Jordan said: “I’ve missed thousands of shots and lost thousands of games, and

that is what makes me successful.”

II. IF WE WANT A BETTER LIFE WE MUST ACCEPT THAT TRUTH WILL ALWAYS

SET YOU FREE...

John 8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

A. We do not want RELIGION, we desire RELATIONSHIP.

We all feel closer to others when there is openness and clarity with expectations, and can trust in the

day-to-day relationships .

B. WE LOVE HONESTY, BUT WE NEED TO BE CANDID, AND USE TRUTH WISELY.

C. TO MUCH FERTILIZER WILL KILL THE PLANT...

III. THE GOOD NEWS IS THE BAD NEWS IS NOT THE TRUTH...

KNOW THAT GOOD COMES OUT OF BAD... WE MUST LEARN HOW TO

BE POSITIVE EVEN IN NEGATIVE SITUATIONS...

Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them

who are the called according to his purpose.

A. Delivering bad news must be handled with care but important to share with everyone to build

more of the trust.

B. We must learn the difference in ACTION and REACTION...

Often we find ourselves always REACTION TO NEGATIVE GARBAGE...

C. GOD HAS A PLAN... DO WE TRUST HIM?

Sometimes the worse thing that could ever happen is THE BEST THING THAT COULD HAPPEN...

D. SHARE AND GIVE...

We’ve all heard that phrase that honesty is the best policy.

It does apply in delivering bad news as well.

IV. DON'T WEAR A MASK...

REALIZE YOU ARE NOT ALWAYS RIGHT...

ADMIT IT WHEN YOU ARE WRONG...

Psalm 32:5 I acknowledged my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess

my transgressions unto the Lord; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Selah.

A. BE QUICK TO SAY:

1. I WAS WRONG...

2. I MADE A MISTAKE...

3. I AM SORRY...

4. FORGIVE ME...

B. YOU ARE HUMAN, HUMAN'S MAKE MISTAKES...

You are not perfect, DON'T EXPECT OTHERS TO BE PERFECT.

C. Admitting mistakes sends message of courage, accountability and humility.

Psalm 51:3 For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me.

D. Once I was a BAD DAD, I CALLED MY SONS INTO MY BED ROOM AND ASKED THEM

TO LAY THEIR HANDS ON ME AND PRAY FOR ME...

V. BE A PERSON OF YOUR WORD... Keeping Promises

Matthew 5:37 But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is

more than these cometh of evil.

A. IF YOU ARE GOING TO TALK THE TALK...

MAKE SURE YOU WALK THE WALK

B. Honor your commitments ... be a man of your word.

VI. KEEP YOUR COOL... KEEP YOUR ANGER UNDER CONDTROL

Proverbs 15:1 A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.

Proverbs 30:33 Surely the churning of milk bringeth forth butter, and the wringing of the nose

bringeth forth blood: so the forcing of wrath bringeth forth strife.

A. KEEP YOU TEMPER, NO ONE ELSE WANTS IT...

Communicating effectively requires composure and grace.

B. BLOW UP, Challenges, stress and obstacles are part of every LIFE.

C. How themselves during the good times and the bad times can be a reflection of their character,

competence and eventually their credibility.
