No Compromise Part 1
Daniel and the King’s Food

Message Point: Holiness doesn’t allow for compromise.
Focus Passage: Daniel 1:1-19
Introduction: (Object Lesson) Use two things of equal size. (I used two mic stands) Label one “God’s Holiness” and the other “ME.” Place the holiness object somewhere and leave it. Put the “ME” stand next to it and explain that we are to be Holy for our Father in Heaven is holy. Then, give an example of making a compromise, such as, “telling a little white lie” and when you do, move the “ME” stand away (or back) from the Holiness stand. Explain that the compromise has set a new standard for you and it is easier to make little moves rather than one large move away from God.
I. Circumstances Change
a. Nebuchadnezzar conquers Jerusalem (2 Kings 24:10 ff)
b. Daniel went from being a prince (or at least a noble) to a slave
c. Not only that, but he was being groomed to forget his home culture and to serve Nebuchadnezzar
II. Easy to Compromise
a. There was no organization of priests
b. No one would be watching
c. It would be very easy to do what was asked of them and no one else would know
III. Conviction
a. (Vs 8) “Daniel purposed in his heart” (KJV)
b. His faith and obedience weren’t for show
c. His obedience grew OUT OF his faith
Application/Call to Obedience: Here in America, we are able to compromise all day long and no one bats an eye, because everyone else is compromising, too. What area of your life is there compromise? What area of your “religion” is just for show and not out of faithful obedience? When we say one thing but behave another, that is hypocrisy. The Bible says that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. (Romans 10:9-10 NASB)
