Good morning, beloved family. We gather here today in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, imbued with the Holy Spirit, to explore the treasures of God's word.
It is a great joy and privilege to be standing before you, sharing the divine wisdom that has been bestowed upon us. Today, we will be focusing on a topic that probably resonates with each one of us: waiting on God's timing.
The heart of our message today is found in the book of Habakkuk, specifically Habakkuk 2:1-3. Allow me to read this passage to you: "I will stand at my watch and station myself on the ramparts; I will look to see what he will say to me, and what answer I am to give to this complaint. Then the LORD replied: 'Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it. For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay.'"
This passage speaks volumes about the nature of waiting on God's timing.
It reminds us that even in the midst of uncertainty and seeming delay, God is at work. His promises are sure and will come to pass at the appointed time.
In the words of A.W. Tozer, "God never hurries. There are no deadlines against which He must work. Only to know this is to quiet our spirits and relax our nerves."
God's timing is perfect, even when it doesn't align with our own schedules or expectations.
I’m drawn to the overarching theme of waiting on God's timing. This theme is a life principle that we, as believers, are called to live by. It's a principle that permeates every aspect of our lives, from our personal relationships to our professional endeavors, from our spiritual growth to our emotional well-being.
In the midst of our waiting, it's easy to lose sight of the hope that we have in God. We may find ourselves questioning His plans, doubting His promises, and wrestling with impatience. But the Scripture reminds us to hold onto hope, even when the waiting gets tough.
We need to understand the importance of hope in our waiting. Hope is not just a feeling of optimism or a wishful thinking. It's a confident expectation in God's promises, a firm assurance in His faithfulness.
In the book of Hebrews, hope is described as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It's what keeps us grounded in the midst of life's storms and uncertainties.
When we hold onto hope in our waiting, we are essentially trusting in God's character. We are acknowledging that He is good, that He is faithful, and that He is in control. We are affirming that His plans are for our good, even when we can't see the bigger picture.
Another aspect is the role of faith in our waiting. Faith, in essence, is believing in what we cannot see. It's trusting in God's promises, even when our circumstances suggest otherwise. Again, within the book of Hebrews, faith is described as the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.
When we exercise faith in our waiting, we are essentially stepping into the unknown, confident that God is with us. We are choosing to believe in His promises, even when they seem far off. We are choosing to trust in His timing, even when it doesn't align with ours.
Another element to consider is the power of perseverance in our waiting. Perseverance, in essence, is the ability to keep going, even when the going gets tough. It's the capacity to endure hardships, trials, and delays without losing hope. In the book of James, perseverance is described as the testing of our faith, which produces character and maturity.
When we persevere in our waiting, we are essentially growing in our faith. We are learning to trust God in the midst of difficulties. We are learning to rely on His strength, rather than our own. We are learning to see our waiting not as a burden, but as an opportunity for growth.
Another necessity is prayer during our waiting. Prayer, in essence, is our lifeline to God. It's our means of communication with Him, our avenue for expressing our hopes, fears, and desires. In the book of Philippians, prayer is described as the antidote to anxiety, the pathway to peace.
When we pray in our waiting, we are essentially drawing near to God. We are inviting Him into our struggles, our doubts, and our impatience. We are surrendering our timelines to His, our plans to His. We are choosing to rest in His presence, confident in His love and care for us.
As we continue to wade deeper into these aspects of waiting on God's timing, let's remember to hold onto hope, exercise faith, persevere, and pray. These are not just spiritual disciplines, but life principles that will guide us in our walk with God. Let's embrace them, practice them, and see how God works in and through our waiting.
