Summary: Divine Exceptions

Psalm 127 Divine Exceptions - A Song of degrees for Solomon.

God Sovereignty is seen in 5 realms:

(1) Building a house; (2) Protecting a city; (3) Earning a living.

(4) Raising a family and (5) Defending the Truth

1. We Don't Work In Vain - Our Stability Depends on God

I believe this to be a Psalm written by David to his son Solomon.

The Divine Authority - 1 Except the Lord

The Divine Ability - build the house, - He can build it

The Divine Activity - build the house, - He will build it

The Divine Absurdity - they labour in vain that build it: - He must build it

2. We Don't Watch In Vain - Our Security Depends On God

The Divine Authority - 1 Except the Lord

Psalm 121:1 I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. 2 My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth. 3 He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber.

Psalm 20:7 Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God

The Divine Ability - keep the city - He can keep it

The Divine Activity - keep the city - He will keep it

The Divine Absurdity - the watchman waketh but in vain - He must keep it

3. We Don't Wait In Vain - Our Supply Depends On God

2 It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep. (for while they sleep he provides for those he loves.)

Psalm 37:3 Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. 4 Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. 5 Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.

6 And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday. 7 Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him:

Statistics Of A Good Harvest - 5 % of the produce of a farm can be attributed to the efforts of man. 95% to the providence of God.

4. We Don't Witness In Vain - Our Success Depends On God

3 Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: (and gift from the Lord)

and the fruit of the womb is his reward.

Their Source -

3 Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.

Their Force - 4 As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth.

Their Recourse - 5 Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.

5. We Don't War In Vain - Our Supremacy Depends On God

4 As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth.

6. We Don't Walk In Vain - Our Salvation Depends On God

Our Condition - 5 Happy is the man

Our Consolation - that hath his quiver full of them:

Our Conviction - they shall not be ashamed, (Father or offspring)

Our Conversation - but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.

Our Contention - Christ’s seed set for the defence of the Gospel
