I. The Announcement of the centurion (27:54) Words

A. The Fear that brought Salvation (27:54)

. Centurion & 100 men, responsible, supervising crucifixion

. Was he at the Garden? Heard charges of leaders, Pilate?

. Arresting, scourging, crowning, taunting, beating, mocking

. Spitting, nailing, piercing, gambling, hating, laughing

. His reaction to the darkness & disturbance! Feared Greatly!

. Phobia = sheer terror, panic; Matthew 14:26; 17:6

. Emotional fear turned to reverential awe!

. He sensed a supernatural origin!

. Truly = certainty & conviction of genuine faith; profession!

. Illumination & conviction of the Holy Spirit!

. Matthew 16:16-17; Mark 15:39; 1 Corinthians 12:3

. Luke 23:47 - he glorified God

. Saw many die, but not like Jesus; Christ & His strength, cry

. Confronted by holiness, righteousness; aware of his sin.

. Glorified God; Matthew 14:33; Luke 1:35; John 19:7

. Isaiah 6:1-8

. Jesus wasn’t a lunatic, a liar but He was the Lord!

B. The Forgiveness that was Sought - Luke 23:34a - Father…

. Jesus prayed for the deceived & confused & it was answered

II. The Affection of the women (27:55-56) Warmth

A. They Ministered to Him - on many occasions; Luke 8:1-3

. Get the word deacon from; serving; 1 Timothy 5:10

. Luke 4:39; 10:40; John 13:3-16

B. They Mourned over Him - Luke 23:27

1. Deep grief, hope shattered, courage daunted

2. Devoted service; always ministering

3. Dedicated: faithful and true

. Mary Magdalene - Luke 8:2

. Mary, the mother of James & Joseph -

Mark 15:40 - James the less, an apostle

Matthew 10:3, son of Alphaeus; John 19:25 - wife of Clopas

. Mother of James & John (Zebedee‘s) Salome; Mark 15:40

. Divine dignity to all the women; Where were all the men?

. The 12? Only John was there.

C. They Managed to stay with Him - Luke 23:49
