Summary: This was written for Men however it can be adapted to use for all groups. This Sermon is to inspire others to do their best work for Christ.
Essentials for Men: God’s W-O-R-K
Introduction: We as men are wired to work. It is how we get our satisfaction. I read a study that men suffer from anxiety and depression when they lose a job because it is a blow to their self worth.
-For me I get my anxiety FROM work. I remember a fire sign at a place I use to work that said. ‘In the case of a fire, flee the building with the same reckless abandon as you do at quitting time!
-This morning I would like to talk about us doing God’s Work.
John 9:4 I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.
I. Willing to work
a. It is said that the Brain begins to work the moment you wake up and turns off the moment you get to the office.
1. We as men can be the same way in our work for the Lord
b. The question I need to ask myself is am I willing to do what Christ is telling me to do?
1. It seems I will have many excuses why I can’t do something.
II. Obedient to do Gods work.
Phil 2:5 -8 5 Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. 8 Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
a. We can be willing to Gods tasks but not always Obedient to do His work.
1. Our God was obedient even to death on the cross and he should be my example.
2. I have to ask myself am I obedient to the things of Christ? In all honesty my answer is not always !
b. Look at another example and that is of Paul
2 Tim 4: 6- 7 6For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure has come. 7I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith;
III. Reliable to do Gods work
Matt 9:36 -38 36 Seeing the people, He felt compassion for them, because they were distressed and dispirited like sheep without a shepherd. 37 Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. 38 “Therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest.”
a. How reliable am I to do God’s will. Am I sporadic? I have to answer YES. At times I am and it is not because of God but because of my laziness and fear.
1. I must be reliable for him as we read in John 9:4. The night is coming and then no man can work.
IV. Know what work go has for you
a. We need to seek God in prayer as to what purpose he has for you.
1. This is work that is beyond what all Christians are supposed to do but work that only God has given you
Mat 25: 19 - 21 “Now after a long time the master of those slaves came and settled accounts with them. 20“The one who had received the five talents came up and brought five more talents, saying, ‘Master, you entrusted five talents to me. See, I have gained five more talents.’ 21“His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful slave. You were faithful with a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your master.’
b. How do you know what gifts you have? First Prayer but there are many tools and studies to help you.
1. Ministrymatters.com has a quiz that can help you.
2. We have some pamphlets in the church that have what each gift is. God has gifted us all and only you can perform your work.
