Summary: It is through faith that we are able to appropriate God’s riches. With it, we can triumph over impossibilities and laugh over problems.

HEBREWS 11:1, 6

Faith is an important element in the life of believers. In fact, it is one of the most important cornerstones in our spiritual life. It is through faith that we are able to appropriate God’s riches. With it, we can triumph over impossibilities and laugh over problems. Through the power of faith, we can overcome the world and its problems.

DEFINITIONS AND USE OF FAITH: The word faith is found only twice in the Old testament but 245 times in the New Testament. This word simply means to confide in God so as to be secured without fear, to flee for refuge or to take shelter in, to rest on, to rely on, to believe or to take one at his word.

THE BIBLE DEFINITION OF FAITH IS

A; The substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen, Heb 11:1

B; Now faith is well grounded assurance of that for which we hope and a conviction of the reality of things which we do not see: Daniel 3:17.

C; Now faith is the title deed of things hoped for, the putting to proof of things not seen. Genesis 27:7-8

D; Now faith is an assumption of what is being expected, a conviction concerning matters which are not being observed.

E; Paul in Romans 4:17 express true faith as an attribute of God, who quickeneth the dead and calleth those things which be not as though they were. Faith is a union of assurance and conviction. Faith does not have to see before it believes, it laughs at impossibilities and all circumstances that may be contrary to it. The foundation of Christianity is belief in the unseen reality. Faith is our only connection to this reality.

FAITH AND SALVATION

Faith is the key to salvation. We must believe in our hearts that God is real, that Jesus truly died for us and that salvation is real; John 1:12, Romans 1:16-17, Romans 10:9-10 – we are justified by faith. Rom 5:1 – we are God’s children by faith. Galatians 3:26 – we are kept by the power of faith 1 Peter 1:5. 1 Corinthians 15:1-4.
