Summary: You don’t fast to get something, but to spend time with God.

A. INTRODUCTION

1. No one ever got closer to the presence of God than Moses. He spent 40 days at the top of Mount Sinai. It was there:

? God promised Moses, “I will personally go with you” (33:14).

? Moses responded, “Your presence among us sets Your people and me apart from all other people” (33:16).

2. Moses fasted in the presence of God. “Moses remained there on the mountain with the Lord, forty days and forty nights. In all that time he ate no bread and drank no water” (Ex. 34:28).

? The key, “with the Lord.” You don’t fast to get something, but to spend time with God.

? This was a supernatural fast. “He ate no bread,” if you go 50 to 60 days without eating you will die.

? He drank no water. If you go over 7 days without water, you will die. Never go more than 3 days without drinking. The brain is approximately 80 to 90 percent water. When you fast from water, you lose brain size/capacity. You will lose capacity that may never be reclaimed.

3. The presence of God was the passion of Moses’ life. “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty” (Ps. 91:1, NKJV, Psalm 91 was written by Moses).

B. TODAY LET’S LOOK AT SOME OF THE THINGS MOSES DID TO GET INTO THE PRESENCE OF GOD. These are things you should do while fasting.

1. You must purpose to find God’s presence. You do not find God by accident. “The Lord instructed Moses, come up here to Me” (Ex. 24:1).

2. Not everyone will find God’s presence. “All of you must worship from a distance” (Ex. 24:1).

3. You must be yielded to His will. “We will do everything the Lord has commanded” (Ex. 24:3).

4. You come to God through the altar. “Moses got up and built an altar” (Ex. 24:4).

5. You must apply the blood of Christ for present day cleansing. Don’t depend on yesterday’s cleansing. “Moses drained . . . the blood . . . he splattered against the altar” (Ex. 24:6).

6. You read (aloud) the Word of God. Moses “took the Book of the Covenant and read it aloud” (Ex. 24:7).

7. You must search diligently with all your heart. “The Lord said to Moses, ‘Come up to Me on the mountain’” (Ex. 24:12). “Then Moses climbed up the mountain . . . and the glory of the Lord settled down” (Ex. 24:15).

8. You learn to abide in the Lord. “He remained on the mountain” (Ex. 24:18).

9. Write down what God tells you and what you learn. “The Lord said to Moses, ‘Write down all these instructions’” (Ex. 34:27).

10. Fast in His presence. “Moses remained there on the mountain with the Lord forty days and forty nights. In that time, he ate no bread and drank no water” (Ex. 34:2).

11. You know you’ve been in the presence of the Lord when your face shows it. When Moses came down Mount Sinai . . . he wasn’t aware that his face had become radiant because he had spoken to the Lord” (Ex. 34:29).

12. When you’ve been in the presence of the Lord, others will know it. “When Aaron and the people of Israel saw the radiance of Moses’ face” (Ex. 34:30).

13. Some people will reject your experience in the presence of the Lord. “Moses . . . put a veil over his face . . . but the people’s minds were hardened (2 Cor. 3:12-13).

14. It is possible that any believer can enter the presence of God to see His glory and be changed. “So all of us . . . can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord – who is the Spirit – makes us more and more like Him as we are changed into His glorious image” (2 Cor. 3:18).

If you have never really accepted Jesus as your personal Savior, would you do it right now? Do not delay or put it off. If you would like to receive Christ by faith, pray this simple prayer in your heart:

Dear Lord, I acknowledge that I am a sinner. I believe Jesus died for my sins on the cross, and rose again the third day. I repent of my sins. By faith I receive the Lord Jesus as my Savior. You promised to save me, and I believe You, because You are God and cannot lie. I believe right now that the Lord Jesus is my personal Savior, and that all my sins are forgiven through His precious blood. I thank You, dear Lord, for saving me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

If you prayed that prayer, God heard you and saved you. I personally want to welcome you to the family of God and rejoice with you.
