Summary: MUCH OF PSALMS 116 OF DEIVERANCE FROM DEATH.

GOD’S HEARING EARS

OBSERVATION: PSALMS 116 IS A THANKSGIVING PSALM OF DELIVERANCE FROM DEATH. MANY SCHOLARS VIEW IT AS ONE OF SEVERAL PASSOVER PSALMS IN PSALMS 113-118. THE PASSOVER IS RECORDED IN EXODUS CHAPTER 12.

INTERPRETATION: PSALMS 116:1-2 (NKJV) I LOVE THE LORD, BECAUSE HE HAS HEARD MY VOICE AND MY SUPPLICATIONS, BECAUSE HE HAS INCLINED HIS EAR TO ME, THEREFORE I WILL CALL UPON HIM AS LONG AS I LIVE.

THOUGHTS TO PONDER:

THE HEBREW LANGUAGE EXPRESSED HERE SUGGESTS DEEP EXCITEMENT AND EMOTION FOR THE LORD.

IT WAS A GOOD THING FOR THE PSALMIST TO PLACE HIS CONFIDENCE IN NO ONE BUT GOD. NEITHER THE PSALMIST NOR OTHERS HAD THE ANSWERS HE NEEDED. THAT IS NOT TO SUGGEST ALL COUNSEL IS POOR (FOR IN A MULTITUDE OF COUNSEL THERE IS SAFETY-PROVERBS 24:6. GOD BENT HIS EAR TO HEAR THE PSALMIST APPEAL.

GOD’S MORAL PERFECTION MAKES HIM YOUR OBJECT OF LOVE AND EXCELLENCE. HE MUST BECOME YOUR MODEL FOR LOVE AND EXCELLENCE TO OTHERS.

A BELIEVER MUST CONTINUE TO LOVE GOD REGARDLESS OF THE CIRCUMSTANCES AND OUTCOME. HE MUST BE YOUR OBJECT OF UTMOST RESPECT AND LOVE BECAUSE HE FIRST LOVED YOU. THE LORD INCLINES HIS EAR TO MEET YOUR NEEDS.

APPLICATION: THERE IS NO PIT SO DEEP THAT A CRY FROM IT MAY NOT REACH THE HEART OF GOD (F. B. MEYER).
