This sermon explores how God uses our weaknesses for His glory, demonstrating His divine wisdom and love, and challenging human understanding.

Introduction

Welcome beloved, I trust you're all wrapped in the warmth of God's love and grace today. We're gathered here, not by mere coincidence, but by divine appointment. We're here to break the bread of life, to drink from the fountain of wisdom that never runs dry, to commune with our Creator, and to glean from His eternal word. Today, we're going to unpack a profound passage from the first letter of Paul to the Corinthians, specifically, 1 Corinthians 1:26-29.

The passage reads, "Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him."

Isn't it a marvel how God's ways are far above our ways? How He takes the foolish to confound the wise, the weak to defeat the strong, the lowly to ascend above the high? It's a divine paradox that challenges our human understanding, yet it's the very essence of our faith.

Divine Decisions

The inimitable Charles Spurgeon once said, "God does not need your strength: he has more than enough power of his own. He asks for your weakness: he has none of that himself, and he is longing, therefore, to take your weakness, and use it as the instrument in his own mighty hand. Will you not yield your weakness to him, and receive his strength?"

The message of our text today can be broken down into three main points: Divine Decisions, Dependable Deliverance, and Dignity in Disadvantage. We'll be looking at these points in detail, trusting that the Holy Spirit will illuminate our hearts and minds to grasp the depth of God's wisdom and love.

Let's bow our heads in prayer. Dear Heavenly Father, we come before You today with open hearts and minds, ready to receive from You. We ask that You guide us as we study Your word, and help us to apply these truths in our daily lives. Let Your word be a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. We pray this in the precious name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.
