God’s Bail-Out Plan

January 18, 2009 Morning Service

Immanuel Baptist Church, Wagoner, OK

Rick Boyne

Message Point: God has provided the way of salvation.

Focus Passage: Acts 4:8-12

Introduction: Leaky boats.

I. Present Situation Summary

a. Economic: banks failing, homes foreclosed, jobs lost, companies bankrupting, personal credit debt mounting

b. Spiritual: The wages of sin is death. Rom 6:23.

c. And inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment, Heb 9:27

II. How did we get here?

a. Economic: Mortgage fiasco started in the Clinton Era. Junk bond trading in the 80’s. Companies over-extending themselves in credit in 80’s – 90’s. Credit card companies offering credit cards to anyone and everyone.

b. Spiritual: Originally started in Garden of Eden. When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was desirable to make one wise, she took from its fruit and ate; and she gave also to her husband with her, and he ate. (Genesis 3:6) But “all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God” Rom 3:23

i. We can’t keep blaming Adam and Eve. We cannot blame others for OUR sin. We are the sinner; no one MADE us do it.

III. What can be done about it?

a. Economic: tax rebates last year - $145 Billion – much wasted on frivolity; $800 Billion in Oct-Nov – much cannot be accounted for; Obama proposing $1 Trillion. But will it work?

b. Spiritual: “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us” Rom 5:8” Acts 4:12 "And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved."
